When will a Linux version be available?
Thank you.

EA is being developed in Visual C++ so I think it will not be easy to do this and besides I don't think it can have enough customers to cover costs.
If it was developed in Java it was possible easily but it would not be as powerful and pleaseant as it is now.
Just my opinion.

You might consider
http://www.codeweavers.com/site/products/cxoffice
to run Windows apps on your Linux box.
-
Give it a try. but beware - I have had some problems running Jet under Linux (Mandrake 9.2), 99.9% of the time it works but .1% update failures which are not caught as the Win app "expects" JET (or at least MDAC) to work and dont catch failked updates.

Let me put something straight - I have NOT tried to run EA under Linux, I was commenting on other apps that have had JET backends :-[

Suppose you could use the mySQL backend with the corporate edition - doubt that uses Jet :)

Hi all,
I used EA and it's amazing tool! And low cost ;).
But I was searched by a linux version of EA. My company uses linux on most our desktops. Unfortunatelly, the EA wasn't released under linux, then:
1 - Why not? Just because uses the Windows component's? Why another toolkit, like Qt, from Trolltech (support for many databases and xml are included)? With this, is possible to develop/release in C++ under Windows, Mac, Linux and a lot off Unix-like systems. Off course, in Windows using Visual C++.
2 - I was tried to run EA under linux using Wine. Unfortunatelly, without sucess... :'(
Well, I just want to know if have some project to port it or if someone have success in run it under Linux.

I'm not sure about that. Linux is not (yet) a mainstream desktop os, but a lot of developers, which are the target users of EA, use it. At my work, we have a development team of 6 people running Linux. Only one of them (me) as a Windows pc too, especially for running EA. If EA was available on Linux, we would buy a license for every developer.

We have released an edition of EA 4.00 that is designed to run using CrossoverOffice on Linux.
Please refer to http://www.sparxsystems.com.au/EAOnLinux.htm for additional info.

I have downloaded the trial versions of CrossOver Office and EA, and installed the whole thing using the online guide, but I have still some problems with EA:
If I want to create a something new (like a diagram, or a view) I get the following error message:
DAO.Recodset[3388]
Unknown function 'Date' in validation expression or default value on 't_package.CreateDate'.
If I open a diagram of the example project I get:
DAO.Database[3085]
Undefined fucntion 'Val' in expression.
And the effect is that I cannot create any diagrams, views,....
Ther is something wrong ;)
Can anybody help me?
thank you in advance

Hello,
I downloaded and installed the linux version as expained on the web-site (took me about 20 minutes).
It seams to work well (didn't do much yet, just creating a simple class diagram).
Two issues:
a) startup time is a little bit long (about 28 sec on an amd 2800 pc with slow harddisk)
b) there is a little problem with the screen refresh of the background of the toolbars: If I open a menue and close it, then a little bit white space is left behind and between the toolbars and toolbar buttons.
That's all for the moment.
Regards and thanks for your effort to create a linux version:

Hello,
a workaround for the display refresh issue is, to switch to a different workspace (kde-arbeitsfläche) and back.
I discovered another issue:
Printing did work out-of-the box, BUT the text in the diagrams is upside down (just the text, not the symbols).
Perhaps somebody else could look at this printing issue?
I am using:
- gentoo linux
- kde 3.2
- ndivia graphics driver
- cups printer (hpijs)

Has anyone had problems where EA on Linux doesn't start? It made it far enough to ask my user name/company and license key, but after that it crashes before it can draw anything.
Crossover mentioned there was problem when installing, but failed to indicate its nature. I needed to run the installer again before an icon appeared on my desktop.
I've had the same result on Red Hat 8 and Fedora Core 1.
Can anyone help? Thanks!

Following installation procedure for linux I got this error:
http://24.156.92.137/ealinux_install.png (unable to register msxml3.dll)
Nevertheless I was able to finish installation. So I can run EA, but now almost
every action on a component is followed by either this: "DAO.Recodset" or this:
"Unknown function 'Date' in validation expression or default value on 't_package.CreateDate'." error messages.

Sorry. My fault - I didn't install required packages (like DCOM and the others).
-
After all required sotware installed EA seems ok now. The only problem - it does print diagrams with text up-side-down :))

We have made this correction to build 726 which should be due out later this week - our apologies for that one! ;D
