Title: EA Linux

 Hello!!!

  I would like to know a file save in EA (Windows) will open in EA Linux.

It will. Have tried. :-))
As I understand it the Linux version is basically the Windows one running on an emulator. Works well for me, I use both.

I'm considering going over to the linux version of EA from the Windows version, being a long standing linux user. I am more than happy with it under Windows, but like the idea of being able to use it under linux, too. I assume it would require a different licence to 'unlock' it, from the Windows one, so requiring an additonal purchase. I can't really justify buying both versions, so it is an either or situation.  :( I would welcome any input from those who have the experience in using EA under linux, to aid in this choice. :-/

As a 'weird thought' - Has anyone tried to install the 'normal' Windows version of EA onto linux, under CrossOver Office?

Purchasing EA allows users to have access to download and install either the Linux version or Windows version of EA. The licensing terms however stipulate that you may only use one of them at a time (one license means one active copy of EA be it on Windows or Linux). Registered users can download the full Linux version from http://www.sparxsystems.com.au/registered/reg_ea_down.htm

So, I could use my Windows version license string to register the linux version instead? (John - I didn't mean to imply that I would run both versions concurrently on only one license - I'm sorry if my post seemed to imply that.) I thought that, in order to switch from running the Windows version to the linux version, I would have to buy another license - i.e. 2 licenses for only one install. I would be wiping Windows off my laptop and replacing it with linux. I'll need to check that Crossover Office 3.0.1 will work ok with Mandrake 10.1 (and remenber to set Win98 compatibility mode).

The license key that you have will work on both Linux and Windows installations, so you will only need your existing license for your fresh linux install on your laptop.
