Title: Requirements Management Tool for EA is released
Post by: Takeshi K on October 14, 2004, 11:15:22 pm
Today SparxSystems Japan released beta trial version of
Requirements Management tool 'RaQuest' for Enterprise Architect.

http://www.sparxsystems.jp/RaQuest/

You know, EA has already features to manage Requirements.
But there are requests to manage them more efficiently and visually
from Japanese EA users and maybe all EA users.

Today SparxSystems Japan released beta trial version
of Requirements Management tool 'RaQuest' .
It's made by EA Automation Interface, and highly integrated with EA.
All information is stored in EAP file or DBMS Repository,
and you can modify items from both RaQuest and EA.

RaQuest has various features to manage Requirements
efficiently. And by generating UseCases from Requirements,
you can enhance software designing by using both EA and RaQuest.

RaQuest needs EA 4.1 build 737 or later.
Now we provide Free trial version (with some limitation),
so please download and try it!!

All advises, requests, comments and bugs reports are
welcome, please send me or [email protected]

Policy to make RaQuest is the same as EA,
in other words, future RaQuest is made by all your comments.

Title: Re: RM Tool for EA - looks good, Yet Another Cost!
Post by: mikewhit on October 15, 2004, 02:51:49 am
Although the entire package still compares very favourable with many other systems, it's a pity that it's yet another per-user expense, rather than (e.g.) JPY20000 per 4 users on a site basis. [Or do I just sound ungrateful ? - it looks great !]

One of the points repeatedly made is the iterative nature of the development cycle, and in small organisations (where tool costs hit hardest), everyone in the technical team needs access to requirements management.

Looks good, but although better RM is "essential" I don't think we'll be buying this in ... yet.

Maybe this will 'spark' ;-) off the development of some open-source RM tools for EA. Trouble is, most people using EA have a day job !

Thank you for checking RaQuest and RaQuest website.

I've fixed small typos in website, so now maybe
there is no typo (but there are lots of bad sentences
to need changing better: please  teach me)

RaQuest Japanese version is already sold in Japan,
so there is only few bugs and problems.
We'll release new build in every two weeks.

It's definitely a move in the right direction but I don't think it's quite where I would want it to be yet. I discussed a lof of my needs in this thread http://www.sparxsystems.com.au/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=suggestions;action=display;num=1096053632. With those functions it would be worth buying, right now it seems a bit too limited.

A lot of the functionality seems to be disabled. Is that because it's a trial or because it's still being implemented? I'm assuming the latter, and that 1.2 will be the first release that really has all the functions.

As the project matures, I hope this will turn into a must have for me. As I said in the other thread, I'd be happy to assist in the specification of features for this application if it means getting the features I want.  :D

Thank you for advising me, Kevin.

I read the thread you mentioned, and in the future
RaQuest will produce features matrix of Requirements
and check differences between Baselines.
I believe finally you're satisfied with our product.

Disabled menu items are not supported yet, but we
plan to produce them in the future. As you said,
we'll plan to release all features at Version1.2,
so it's good idea to wait until V1.2 and then check
if you're satisfied with RaQuest or not.

RaQuest is already sold in Japan (in Japanese language),
but it's halfway, not 'completed' product.
So, you (and other people) may think we should
release after completion, but I still think it's
right decision to release now as Beta
because I can hear your requests.

If I didn't, I can't hear 'true' requests of users
and we'll make poor and useless Requirements
Management tool.

Thank you for your post, and please tell me
if you have more requests and opinion.

Thanks for the reply.

Please don't misunderstand me, I'm quite excited about RAQuest. I think it has the potential to make my life a lot easier. I'm really looking forward to seeing it develop, and I have every intention of keeping a close eye on it and giving you feedback.

Hi, can you please post a current / operational link from which to retrieve RaQuest ?

I just tried to access the (above) provided links, and your domain, none of which were operational.

I'll try again in a day or so in case there are technical difficulties.

Thx,
Steven.

I was able to successfully view previously noted page this morning and viewed the pricing & user manual.

Just a couple questions:
1. The download page says that the Trial version will
work until Nov 15th.  Is that still true ?

2. I have purchased/registered/installed EA 4.5 (ie. a
real license).  If I install a trial license of RaQuest
(assuming the expiry date has/will be extended), will
it over-write (ie. damage) my license for EA ?

Thanks,
Steve.

Hello Steve,

About first question, it's our mistake.
We extended the period to end of this year.
We'll update the page.

And about second question, EA and RaQuest are
completely separeted product. If you install or
uninstall RaQuest, EA has no problem.

(RaQuest uses EAP file, so please delete RaQuest
Package manually if you uninstall RaQuest.)

On 14th December, we released RaQuest version 1.1.

In this version, various data are more integrated with EA,
for example, resources of each Requirement item
or glossary.

And this new version has more features from users'
requests. Thank you for many feedbacks.

Please check detail about RaQuest from:

http://www.raquest.com/

or

http://www.sparxsystems.com.au/RaQuest.htm

And please use new trial build of RaQuest.

Now we changed trial build has no feature limitation
within 30 days.

In some machine/OS, I found a bug which trial build
shows a lot of message boxes and it's unusable.

Now fixed build has been uploaded, so please update
if this bug is shown in your machine.

Hi,

Whenever I attempt to download and run the file I get a message telling me that the exe is not a valid Win32 application, and that the archive is similarly not valid (using the zip file).  :'(

Sorry to reply late.

We checked download link and installer with IE/Netscape/Opera/Firefox,
but downloaded installer works fine.

This problem may depends on your firewall or network,
so please switch off your firewall or try another network
if possible.

Hi,

that is unlikely, as the file downloads fine. The error happens only when I try to run it.
