Title: Mind-map conversion Addin - beta
Post by: Takeshi K on August 15, 2005, 07:45:52 pm
Hello,

I made and uploaded 'Mind-map conversion Addin', beta release.

(Updated on 23/08/2018: The Add-in is no longer available so I deleted the URL to download.)

You can import mind-map information which made by 'FreeMind' -
opensource tool for mind-map.
With this addin, you can convert each node(item)
in mindmap to EA UML elements.

About FreeMind and mind-mapping, please check following page:
http://freemind.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page

*How to use
1. download zip file
2. copy all files to EA install directory
3. run regsvr32 MindMapFMAddin.dll
4. register this addin to registry (double-click the .reg file)

5. run EA
6. select diagram to import in ProjectTree
7. call Addin

8. select FreeMind .mm file
9. select options if you want
10. execute

*basic flow to use MindMap efficiently

1. run FreeMind and think system requirements on mind-map
2. add icons to each node

iconA: functional requirements (to be UseCase element)
iconB: non-functional requirements (to be Requirement element)
iconC: objects (to be Class or Object element)

3. run the add-in
4. convert nodes
5. you can use each item in various UML diagrams!

VERY nice job!

I've been looking at various ways of doing that using xlst transations; but your way makes much more sense...

Hi,

Are there any plans to go in the other direction?  To emit FreeMind mind-maps from suitable models?

We have a lot of BA developed Business UseCases in MindManager and we could probably get them into FreeMind and then into EA, but it would be nice to be able to go the other way too...

Hello Paolo,

We have already offered the Add-in for MindManager
of Japanese language. If you want, we can offer
the add-in for MindManager in English.

And about the first question, currently we have no
plan to import from EA and generate tree of FreeMind
or MindManager.

I think it's possible to add the feature. But I'm not sure
if there are any demands to convert from EA models
to Mind-Map.

Yes, please!  It would be much better than going from MindManager to FreeMind to EA...  (and safer too, I hope)

Just for curiosity: I use MindManager from time to time and can not figure out where's the intersection to UML. Isn't this tool something like a bicycle for a fish?

It's OK - you'll note that most of my posts in the last 6 months feature the word Requirements. Either that, or Test ;-)

From which we can assume that, as per usual, its the testers that finally get the job of writing the requirements  ;D

Sadly,

this is, of course, SO TRUE...

Well, more accurately, they end up having to nail down specifically what actually is and is not required.

Sorry to bother you...

I upload Add-in beta for MindManager.

(Updated on 23/08/2018: The Add-in is no longer available so I deleted the URL to download.)

Basically it's the same to use this add-in.
Please copy all files to EA install directory.

Japanese etiquette I suppose ;)

So I wanted to give it a try, but sadly noticed that MindManager 2002 does not have a XML export. I'll need the latest version, right?

Hello Thomas,

Now we use MindManager X5 Pro. I don't know if older versions can generate XML file.

And I hear only Pro version can generate XML file.

hope this helps.
