Title: apply "auto name counters" to existing elements
Post by: OwenInCanada on June 03, 2008, 11:33:44 pm
Hi all,

My existing SysML project has about 75 requirements.
And now I would like to use "auto name counters".
The documentation says auto name counters only apply to new elements ("new" since name counter was activated).
Is there any way to apply the counter all of the existing elements? Or do I have to make all those changes by hand?

Thanks,

Owen

I think so Owen.

Once again, write a quick automation 'script' to take care of this. Or come up with something to tweak the database where you've stored your project. Even VBA from Word or something would be enough.

David

PS: Once you've handled this, remember to set your counters to start after your pre-named elements. [Guess who's forgotten to do this in past.]

Or, if you don't like the automation interface and SQL but are an old hand with xsl, you might consider to export to xmi, transform and import back.

Absolutely!

Thanks Frank, I'd not thought to include that.

Hello Owen,
If the requirements are all located in one package you can also look at using the Package context menu option: Show Level Numbering.
