Title: EAExample help
Post by: siteseer on June 11, 2008, 12:14:43 am
so this should be simple, but i can't find it.

I'm looking at the EAExample delivered with the software.

In the image below, that i cut from the HO Servers diagram in the Deployment model, the items that i've selected, (Disk Controller, Disks, Processor, RAM)...what are they, where do they live, how do i edit them ?

any help is appreciated.
thanks

These are "tagged values."

Probably the best approach is in a profile to create stereotypes with tagged values you define and then apply the stereotypes to the parent types as needed.  Then edit the stereotype values in the Tagged Values window for each child class.

To edit them, unhide the tagged values window (menu View). It shows all the tagged values belonging to the object selected in the diagram or in the project browser.

Once you've got the Tagged Values window shown, you can dock it instead of closing it. It will open when you next start EA. Many people keep it in the same place as the properties window or the project and resource trees. It will behave nicely and add itself as a tabbed window (as the others do).

Note that you can select one or more elements on a diagram, then choose Show Feature Visibility (control-shift-Y I think) and display the tagged values compartment. There are settings to display tags added to the element itself as well as those inherited from ancestors.

BTW: These might also be Run State variables. You can look this up in the EA help. The display is similar to what you see in the diagram (i.e. not a separate compartment).

That's correct, they are run state variables, not tagged values.  Tagged values appear in a compartment labelled tags.

Thanks
Yes, this is the objects "Runstate" list,  and in the Feature Visiblity dialog, i can turn them on and off..

so at least now i know what they are, and what they are not (tags or attributes)

so now, how do i create/edit/delete them ???

the online help for 'runstate' is no help, it just tells me what they are.

The element on the diagram has a "set run states" context menu.

Give yourself a break,

This is one of those things that are obvious once you've found them the first time, but absolutely arcane until you do.
