Title: EA 8 to 9 compatibility?
Post by: meierch on March 08, 2011, 10:28:25 pm
Is there any information available if EA 8 and 9 are compatible in the sense that both versions can be used on the same repository (e.g. eap file) in parallel?

I've played around with it a bit, and I haven't found any issues yet.
Judging from the past it probably won't be a problem, but as usual we don't have any official statement about this.

Thanks Geert

We have a number of EA installations which we probably cannot upgrade on a single day. Last time this worked without problem ... it would just be nice to have confidence.

After EA 9 goes out of beta I don't see a problem.  Of course currently EA 9 is not recommended for production environments or models.  So I would recommend against it for now...

I am happily using all my EA v 8 models with EA v 9.0 beta with no problems

However, there may (and I say may) be a slight issue if BPMN 1.1 modellers wish to upgrade their models to BPMN 2.0 since some of the BPMN 1.1 tagged values have been renamed in BPMN 2.0

I would guess it's just a matter of synchronising the tagged values.

Cheers

Currently there is no upgrade path from BPMN 1.1 models to BPMN 2.0 models.

We are looking at adding that before the final release.
