Title: BI Documentation
Post by: daparici on August 25, 2012, 01:48:50 am
Hi,

I'm trying to build for my company a new way to document BI projects. The problem is that I didn't see documentation about it with Enterprise Architect tool.

Who do know about? Where do I find information?

PD: Please forgive my bad English.  ;D

Thanks!

I guess 'BI' stands for Business Intelligence, right?
EA supports various UML profiles and methodologies that might be appropriate for your purpose. The 1st things that are coming to my mind are BPMN (http://www.sparxsystems.com/products/mdg_bpmn.html), BRM (http://www.sparxsystems.com/enterprise_architect_user_guide/modeling_languages/business_rule_modeling.html) and Strategic Modelling (http://www.sparxsystems.com/enterprise_architect_user_guide/modeling_languages/business_rule_modeling.html).
I have no experience with either of these, but you might check what might fit for your needs.

Sorry the link for strategic modelling wasn't correct, here's the right one:
http://community.sparxsystems.com/tutorials/Creating%20Strategic%20Models%20with%20Enterprise%20Architect/Creating%20Strategic%20Models%20with%20Enterprise%20Architect.pdf
You'll find an overview of the technologies supported by EA here:

Best regards,

We've created the "EA Extension for SAP(R)" that provides BI modelling capabilities (Multicube, Infocube, Dimension, Infoobject...).

See this link: http://www.sparxsystems.es/New/products/ea-extension-sap.html for more details.

Thought I would resurrect this post, rather then create new one and have sent a PM to Daparici.

Basically my requirement is we have all types or metrics/measures for reporting which may plug into various different corporate reporting outputs and is currently documented into a massive document.

My thoughts were to represent the metrics using the "requirements" element and document the specific criteria as a linked document and then add the relevant requirements which service the required output into a model for the stakeholders. There are various metrics/measures which service multiple outputs and theses will be reused.

Just wondering if anyone can provide any further input.

Stoppy  :)
