First thing to try is to enable Jet 4.0.  See:

Hi Aaron

I tried both the options - Jet 4.0 and Repair .eap file.

It gives me  - "operation is not supported for this type"

Thanks

What is the exact error message and when does it appear?

When I enable Jet 4.0 and restart EA and try to open the file, it gives the same error of "Unrecognizable database format".

Keeping the Jet 4.0 enabled, i tried repairing the eap file then it gives me the error of "operation is not supported for this type"

This could suggest the file is the default Jet 3.5 format, but the problem is that the file has become damaged.

Try disabling the Jet 4.0 option again, then try using the Repair EAP File command.

Thanks Aaron!!

I tried what you suggested - disabling Jet 4.0 and then repair....it gives the same error - "Unrecognized Database Format"

If possible, please zip up your EAP file and send to [email protected] for further investigation.  If the file is too big to email, perhaps try using DropBox and provide the url instead.

Sorry Aaron...I cannot share the file as it has company project's sensitive data.

Is there any other way you can help? Like webex or sharing our screens or if you need any screenshots?

Let me know which option is suitable for you

Thanks

I believe Aaron was suggesting that because we may be able to correct the issue using MS Access. A webex or similar isn't going to help repair the file.

If you don't have Access, or someone you do trust who has it, or it doesn't work then I hope you do have a recent backup.

I once got an obfuscation tool from Sparx. But likely that won't work with a damaged EAP?

Have you tried opening with MS Access?

If you open the EAP with Notepad++ you should see
NUL SOH NUL NULStandard Jet DBNUL...

@Simon -  ok...what subject line should i write in the email so that its easily understood by you or Aaron to take it from there.

@qwerty - I am trying to open it with Notepad too...its still in process...giving "not responding" ..i think this is because of the file size.

Well, then it really looks like being the right file. But even worse, some internal structures are clobbered. If you can't get it opened via MS Access (you need to try different versions) your only hope is the backup.

Send to [email protected] with a subject line something like "damaged EAP file recovery (attn: Aaron B)".  I will see it.
