Title: Element Templates Package
Post by: Rosco11 on November 14, 2014, 10:29:45 pm
Hi All,

I am new to EA and I'm trying to create element templates.

I've successfully created a requirement element template with custom properties and tagged values. I'd like to include generic text in the notes field. Although the text is showing in the notes section of the template, each time I create a new requirement the text is missing from notes. All of the other properties are set correctly.

The instructions in the help section on Element Templates says "Add new elements to the template diagrams from the Toolbox, and configure the size, appearance, notes, version and other properties."

Am I doing something wrong? Is it possible to make the text in the template persist?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Are you sure the requirement template is in the designated template package? (you assign a template package using Project|Settings|Project Template Package)

I just tried it and for me it works.

Hi Geert,

Thanks for the reply. Yes the requirement template is in the designated template package. It seems to be picking up any changes I make to the requirement template properties. However anything I add to the notes field in the requirements template remains blank when I add requirements to a diagram.

That is really strange.
I just tested this in v12, but I know it already worked like that in v7.5, so I don't think it will be version related.

Do you also have the same problem when you only have one element in the template package?

I would contact Sparx support if I were you.

OT: Out of curiosity I wanted to create a model template. So I searched the help for the model template. After the first 30 results I finally gave up (there were 126 listed in total). How nice it would be if a help would actually provide help.

I guess in that case Google would have been better. It's not always that Google returns the best result but very often its helpful. Would be nice to see some of those technologies embedded in EA. At least something more appropriate than CHM :P

@qwerty - this point has been raised before, and we have said that doing a search on a .chm file is always somewhat vague because it acts on every word in the search term separately. If you use the index, you will find the information you need much faster.

Ok, Roy. I'll keep that in mind (hopefully).
