Title: BUG: reflexive association
Post by: SF_lt on May 09, 2006, 06:02:30 am
there is no way to modify reflexive association (association to self) layout - no bend option, no way to make wider space between in and out ends.
This BUG several months was already reported by jeshaw2 (original post http://www.sparxsystems.com.au/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=suggestions;action=display;num=1132203389;start=5)
, however situation hasn't changed.

Also, multiplicity is coupled with the end role name (it's separate in non-reflexive associations)

example:

re-registering this bug again

Good idea to reiterate this as a bug, or at least a set of feature requests. I keep trying to modify one of these as well as inspecting the release notes, hoping this area has been improved in each new version.

To date (build 790) it has not.

I believe, that this is the true BUG, because reflexive association is a normal association with only difference - source and target ends clashes on the same class.

EA's unique user interface strikes again...   ::)

However, as with much of EA's Unique Interface, it can be traced to a poor conceptual model internally within EA.

I invite Sparxians to refute this statement.

I request Sparxians to indicate when these inconsistencies may be removed.  Or at least to acknowledge that these are deficiencies that need to be removed.  (Unlike Microsoft's "This is by Design...")  In my experience (over many products), it just gets worse and worse, if they aren't tackled early.  FWIW, Jim's bug report came about 6 months after mine, and a year later, nothing has yet been done...

I agree with the Paolo - impact will be bigger later

I'm also not quite happy with the WMF picture quality - some letters are simply too close - I would choose WMF to PNG for clearier picture, but text clearness could be much better.

I have experienced diagram re-layout when saving diagrams in the WMF format (cause may be influencied by different object snap configuration with EA on other PC's and saving WMF triggers to re-layout to distinct snap points).

Should I submit these remarks as WMF bug/bugs?

Probably you should. But first it might be worth clearing the "Zoom to best scale" box in the Tools / Options / Diagram dialog, to see if this modifies the way EA is handling your diagram layouts.

I have also long wondered if the above setting (which I tend to leave checked) conflicts with the "Auto-resize marks diagram 'dirty'" box on the Tools / Options / Objects dialog.

I think that if you do, the advice will probably be to use EMF format instead. Does it do the same thing with EMF format? If so, please report it as an EMF bug. (Note that when the option "Tools | Options | Clipboard Format" is set to "Metafile" that will be EMF, not WMF)

FWIW:  I'm still waiting (hopefully) for a fix on the reflexive association issue.  I hope the EA product isn't getting too large for them to support properly.

Hi Jim,

I'm currently working on improving reflexive paths.  The new functionality will be available in 6.5.
