Title: Did you guys forgot the DELete key
Post by: Emilio on July 11, 2008, 10:21:16 pm
A very popular and extremely useful key present in keyboards around the world since the early days of computing. We are talking about the DEL key.

The DEL key is marked in other keyboards as DELETE and its function is to DELETE whatever object or item the user has currently selected on the program that is currently active.

One bug (omission as you may call it) that has been in EA since early days and has never been solved is to ENABLE the use of the DELETE key.

It is quite annoying to have to first depress a mouse button then select "Delete" from a context menu when one can simply press the conveniently placed DEL key.

On the same subject I don't see why it should not be possible to select multiple objects in the Project Explorer and then press DEL (or select it from the menu for those inclined to be less productive).

Now that we are using the latest (7.1) version, I think this would be a most welcomed fix to any release of Enterprise Architect.

In EA, Delete is usually used to remove something off the diagram while Ctrl+Delete is used to remove something from the model.  (You can choose the behavior when pressing delete for a selected connector on the diagram.)

In addition is Simon's response, you can also perform a multiple select in the Project Browser and use the Ctrl+Del keyboard shortcut to delete multiple items.

AND you can multiple-select on a diagram and press [Delete] to remove all selected elements from the diagram.

All these things are documented in the Help. We are actually rather fond of the little [Delete] key.
