Title: Vector graphics output
Post by: Daniel Huss on November 24, 2008, 10:09:19 am
Why EA is unable to save diagrams as vector graphics is a mystery to me. There is, however, a temporary workaround using a PDF printer. But since there is no auto-cropping when printing, changing the printing borders in the page setup menu is the only way to get acceptable images.

It's still a pain because changing the printing borders is a major procedure that involves opening the windows printer settings dialog then going back to EA and select a postscript printer-specific layout preset.

Is there an easier, more direct way to change the printing borders?

What vector format are you expecting? EA supports saving diagrams as EMF. If you are wanting SVG there are plenty of conversion utilities available.

Whoops. :-[
I concluded that EMF wasn't a vector format when there was no scaling in IrfanView. Mea culpa!

Now, if I ever find a conversion utility that doesn't cost 50$ or more, I'll make sure to post it here. The only alternative so far seems to be the Apache Batik SVG library, which features a transcoder component.

In the meantime, I'll keep printing PDFs. There is a nice cropping utility (Govert's PDF Cropper) that removes the need for a proper page setup altogether.
