Title: Article on EA tool to document integration pattern
Post by: srini on December 24, 2008, 07:53:47 pm
Integration patterns (www.eaipatterns.com) are getting wide popularity and there is no UML representation so far for them.  The closest thing what we have is the visio stencil from http://www.eaipatterns.com/downloads.html

This article is about, how to leverage the design patterns functionality given in Enterprise architect tool (www.sparxsystems.com.au) and represent integration patterns through them.  One of the challenge is how to show different shapes associated with UML.  I have followed associating the images provided in the visio stencil to the classes in the class diagram to provide meaningful diagrams.  I have provided around 10 integration patterns being generated using EA tool in this article.

The following link takes to the article itself. Enzoy

Is it possible to put this article under http://www.sparxsystems.com/resources/developers/ so that others can easily get to it?

Hi Srini,

Thank you for the article and the patterns download. Thses should interest 8 solution architects in my department.

I would be pleased if further work is done to integrate these artefacts to other good work including the UMM Profile for EA and Add-In (http://umm-dev.org/tools/umm-add-in/).

kind regards

Segun

Thanks Segun for your response and link to UMM Profile for EA.  I will go through the link and see how to integrate both.

One more quick question is on rules engine design.  Like we do design for ESBs, I am looking for generic design templates for rules engine as well.

The best source of material on business rules would be the OMG specification on Semantics of Business Vocabulary and Rules (SVBR) at the MOG web site :http://www.omg.org/spec/SBVR/1.0/index.htm

You will find the XMI files useful and with your demonstrated willingness to contribute to the EA community, I believe you will have great progress in delivering a usable Add-In for SVBR very soon. I must again thank you for your great efforts.

kind regards
