Title: Objects Snap to Grid Should be Local NOT Global
Post by: wikitect on August 19, 2009, 07:05:01 pm
The option to snap objects to grid: Tools | Options | Diagram Behavior
is currently a global setting i.e. it is applied to every diagram.

Unfortunately with auto-routing set on if an object shifts slightly this can cause re-routing of connectors. You only find this when you then open another diagram and then have to spend time fixing it. A similar problem/scenario is when you import into an EA repository that has this behaviour switched on.

This really should be a local behaviour to the diagram being edited rather than applied wholesale to everything.

So would you like this setting to become the default for new diagrams, but not change the setting for existing diagrams?

If I recall correctly this is how most of these kind of settings work, so I'm a bit surprised that this is not the case for this option.

I'd like to be able to specify it in the diagram properties dialog and, yes if necessary, change it.

Taking your point the global settings would be the place to make it a default for the creation of new diagrams (but the diagram properties would subsequently allow you to change this if it suits).

Does this make sense?

Yes indeed.
That seems like a good way of handling settings in general.
