Title: Linking Object Hierarchy on Import
Post by: wikitect on December 18, 2009, 11:42:46 pm
Have tried the import of CSV to take in requirements from DOORS (yes I know there is an add-in but the basic import helps when the tools are disconnected).

Actually impressed with the maintenance of a visible hierarchy as this solves a lot of the potential clutter when you've hundreds of objects.

The trouble is with the hierarchy is that it is only a visual / physical object hierarchy in the catalogue. There is no relationship between the containing and contained objects and therefore the hierarchy isn't preserved or visible when dropping them onto a diagram etc.

My suggestion is that the import / maintain hierarchy is supplemented by the ability in the CSV to add columns defining the connector type and stereotype and direction. Of course it would be even better if the import could access the definitions provided by a MDG technology / UML profile.
