Title: Forum: attachments for select participants
Post by: Uffe on January 23, 2016, 02:05:31 am
Hi all,

Earlier today I answered a question on diagramming. The quality of that answer would be a lot better if I could attach an image.

I fully understand why this option is switched off; spam and storage requirements and so on. But would it be possible to enable it for select users? Say, those with more than 500 posts and a net karma of at least +10?

Or failing that, just me?  ;D

me too  ;D

The current "workaround" to post the image on a public image hosting site, and linking to it in the forum is pretty cumbersome, and often these image hosting sites are blocked in corporate networks.

Given the current trend with the negative karma, no one is going to have a positive karma apart from the Sparxians.

Yes. And the fact that you and some other guys have such a high karma is due to the fact that I randomly pushed it up. Just to see how it works. I think it's simply ridiculous, but actually I don't care. I remember in one of the previous fora that Paolo's karma dropped dramatically for no reason. I had my suspect, but I keep that for me.

Not guilty! Hand on heart, I have never down-voted any post. I have "moderated" a few, but never down-voted.

Sure and has anyone been brave enough to hit that unhelpful link yet?

Actually, from my view of the board it isn't possible to give us (or take from us) Karma points. So I'm not sure where ours came from. I, personally, can't see your attachments either, so while allowing direct attachments for some of your posts might be a Jolly Good Thing, all I would be able to do is press my nose against the screen and sigh deeply.

If I'd attach any importance to my karma I probably should stop posting since it looks like most of my post are just rubbish. Probably I'm the guru of disaster.

"We called them gurus, because there wasn't enough room for `charlatan' in the headline"

No offence intended qwerty, but whenever I see the term `guru' I remember that quote.

:P

Hehe. I think all those titles are rubbish. There were also those posters which fell in the category psychological aid (we had them here). And yes, often I just try by throwing in an (abstruse) idea. But then I'm already happy they don't use God as title any more. I'd be happy if all those social bloat would be removed. The only thing that matters is if someone takes the time to try and answer a question. Even if wrong it often helps the questioner to be kicked in a different direction. And yes, I use posting to promote my books. But that's really not what makes me a living. However, the extra beer tastes much better as people appreciate my efforts.

But no answer on the substantive question.
For newbies though, I'd guess this feature was first requested over a decade ago, and somewhere, once, I saw a hypothesis (and I regret forgetting the name) that stated along the line of "where we are now is the normal state, and most likely to remain that way for a similar time again to the time we have been in the current state"

You say it. It was requested since the first fora were in place. And they never implemented it. So when I count on my 9 fingers, the prediction is very clear to me.
