Hello,
We often use aliases for various elements (requirements, or use cases for example)
There is a feature in EA to show both names and aliases in diagrams.
Its is interesting to sort these elements by aliases in the project browser
Guillaume has built an add-in to do this (http://community.sparxsystems.com/community-resources/949-eautils-addin-sparx-enterprise-architect)
In the report templates, we can then show both alias and name. It's OK.
But, it would also be interesting to see the alias in the project browser (in the same manner as for the stereotype). It would help to quickly locate an element by its alias.
Would it be possible to add this feature in EA ?
(I didn't find this feature, but perhaps I missed something ?)
Thanks
Michel

Hi Michael,
To locate an element by its Alias, use the Project Search [Ctrl+Alt+A] function on the toolbar.
Searches in the browser (using the little binoculars icon) are VERY slow and pretty problematic.
Project searches are very fast and customisable. I used EA for a decade before I discovered this little gem. I've never used browser based searches since - they just suck...

Project Search [Ctrl+Alt+A] function on the toolbar.
Gosh, who knew, I was just using ctrl-F

Thank you Paolo,
You are totally right. I will follow your advice.
Have a nice day

Whilst I find the Project Search feature useful to find an element based on the alias, I think it would be interesting to have configuration settings to apply on the project browser such as:
- show/hide elements stereotypes (this is already available via Tools > Options > Project Browser | Show Stereotypes = disabled)
- show/hide elements alias
- show/hide elements classifier
- apply filters e.g. show elements with tagged value "isProjectBrowserVisible" = true (a Find inProject Browser for a hidden element would prompt a popup prompting if the filter can be disabled)
This way one could look for an element based on its alias from the Project Browser in a given context.

I support the idea of allowing the changing the rendering of the item on the browser. If this also improves the search functionality, so be it, but I think it's impact on browsing (as opposed to searching) would be greater.

Hello all
Did the feature of showing alias of an object in the browser make it through to a release?
All the best
