I have been given some BPMN diagrams in XPS format. These were exported from Visio. I have rebuilt some of these diagrams using MDG Technology BPMN 2.0. I am proposing that we import all their legacy VISIO diagrams via XPS files into Sparx to take advantage of Sparx drill-down framework and to take advantage of WebEA. I have used XPS Viewer + Screenshot + MS Paint + Sparx to copy and paste one of the those diagrams into a Sparx diagram. Is there a more efficient way to import many XPS or Visio files into Sparx?

Find a converter to convert xps to emf and import those.
You could also get people to export to emf instead.
If you're really luck you could convince them to use EA instead of Visio. ;)

That's SO much harder than it looks! My experience indicates that it IS a matter of luck, not endeavour on our part!

I know that bit isn't easy... Still had to be said.

There is a visio importer MDG too you could use.

Amazing what you can find using google or search on the sparxsystems.com site. ;D

The Office MDG should allow you to import Visio diagrams but doesn't do a particularly good job but is better than redrawing the diagrams (but, from memory, you need Visio installed side-by-side with Sparx).
Unless you have Sparx ultimate Edition, which I think you do not have, the Office MDG is separate purchase. There is another thread in the forum discussing the merits and demerits of this MDG - please see https://www.sparxsystems.com/forums/smf/index.php/topic,44659.0.html.

Bruce could be trying to import legacy documentation or documentation produced by a 3rd party supplier. It would be virtually impossible to get them to use EA, although it would help.

Answering the original question. I remember we used to import vision diagrams using visio importer then run 2 or 3 scripts for each diagram to look formal. I do not remember how the duplicate objects are handled on import but you can write a script to handle this as well.
