I asked support about upgrading to PHP 8 on 2021-07-20 (from 7.4) and got the following response

[There have been issues with the latest PHP so I recommend you stay with the current one for the present.

Noting that PHP has active support for 7.4 until 28 Nov 2021   and security support until 28 Nov 2022.

Thanks for your reply. We had discussed upgrading to PHP 8, but will put in on hold for now.
