Title: I'm getting a few crashes in EA 16 that never occurred in EA 13
Post by: Richard Freggi on September 24, 2022, 01:39:28 am
EA 16 on *qea file, Wiundows 10 32GB RAM

Just wondering is this is something normal, something due to the interface between Sparx and SQLite, or some bug in EA16.

On EA 13 with *feap files it was rock stable, never had any issues.

I can't keep a good log of crashes on EA16 but one occurred when I mistakenly ran an old Firebird query on the query window in EA; another when I was dragging a class from one diagram to another and clicking 'paste as link'.  Another time my fingers slipped on the keyboard while I was writing a query on the query manager, don;t know what keys I pressed.

Is anyone else experiencing similar issues?

The paste issue crash we usually have when there is a glossary term involved in the paste

Sometimes it crashes, sometimes it doesn't.
Its difficult to reproduce what exactly the problem is, crash dumps aren't useful and as far as I'm aware off there is no debug mode in Sparx.

Hi Richard,

Are you running a direct database connection or through ProCloud Server? Do you have the database repository hosted in the same machine as the desktop client or are they hosted in different machines?

The reason for the question is that we had an episode of random crashes starting on v15 that appeared to cure by itself. Since it appeared to cure by itself, I suspect it was caused by a communication issue between the desktop client and the backend.

qea file on my own hard disk.  No ProCloud.

ps project integrity check finds no issues

Any clues in Windows log, application viewed via event viewer?

The crash dumps are more useful to us than to you. We still like prefer to be able to reproduce the issue ourselves, but a crash dump is definitely an option.

I must admit that v16 (64 bit) indeed seems a lot less stable compared to v15.

Crashes happen at random moments, often simply when selecting an element or something.
Event viewer doesn't contain any useful info (for me)
This seems to happen a few times a day, and I'm basically only using v16 to test stuff on my own computer, not even to really work.
I'm getting a bit concerned if it's a good idea to install this version in a production environment.

Using 32 bit edition of v16 build 1605 and haven't experienced any crashes.
