Title: How can I get EA v15.2 to load EA v16.x QEA files?

Hi all,
EA 16.x creates an output file of type QEA.
Whereas EA 15.x creates an output file of type EAPX.

When we got our new licenses I downloaded 16.x (because I naturally thought it would be better).
I created a small model with it (16.1).

But I found EA 15.2 to be a lot faster when creating certain types of SysML diagrams.


Question: So I tried loading the new model (type QEA) with v15.2 and it would not load. How can I get EA v15.2 to load v16.x QEA files?

Try renaming the file type. If that won't work: it's not backward compatible.

P.S. See the other post/link. QEA is SQLite, EAPX is still some M$Access stuff (but 64 bit?).

Another way would be to try to export from the EA 16.x app the entire model to some XMI format. And then try to import it into the EA 15.x app.

Yes. Support for .qea was added in 16.0, no older version can open it.

If you want a file format that both versions can open, use .feap. Or you can install the 32 bit version of 16 to still be able to exit .eap/.eapx.

As for the model you already have, Settings > Model > Transfer

Thanks. WFH right now and don't have v16 set up right now on any of my machines.
Under which ribbon/group tab would I find that 'Settings' command? Will try when I get back to office.

I did that export from EA 16 to XMI and then then an import to EA15. Worked just fine.
But that was a very small model. of course, don't know what would happen if I tried that an a huge model with tens of 1000s of elements.

Settings is the ribbon you need to look in. Model is the Group within that and Transfer is a menu button that offers different options.
