Title: Create a stereotyped Requirement elements
Post by: EA_enthusiast on October 22, 2023, 06:37:20 pm
Hello, EA Experts,

I am using the Business Motivation Model to model the strategic elements of an organization. The model uses stereotyped requirements for modeling goals, objectives, mission, vision, etc. (as shown in the screenshot). I dragged a non-stereotyped Requirement element from the toolbox and I want to create a stereotype for it and call it "strategic imperative". When I open the Properties window, I do not see the stereotype filed, I can only see the type filed (as shown in the screenshot).

Can someone please help me on how to add a stereotype for the Requirement element?

Thank you,

Try the properties window, not the Modal pop-up.
I don't remember the keyboard shortcut, but it is accessible via Portals -> Windows ->Properties.

Hello, Shimon,

Thanks a lot for your response. That worked! I managed to add a custom stereotype, as shown below...

Now, I am trying to make the element appearance similar to the other elements in the model. i.e., appears with only the stereotype at the top. I tried switching the appearance to "Use Rectangle Notation" but I still see the Requirement stereotype icon at the top right; as shown below...

I tried to uncheck "Use Stereotype Icons" in Design > Diagram > Manage > Properties > Elements but that did not work

Is there a way to hide this stereotype icon?

Why would you attempt that? Hiding it is like pretending an element is not what it is and thus confusing the reader.

Hello qwerty,

Thank you for chiming in. I need to hid to make it consistent with the rest of the elements in the diagram.

Now, "strategic imperative" looks odd compared to the rest of the elements in the diagram which would actually raise the question by the reader "why is this different?"

Well, if there's a difference in semantics then it's different and should appear as such. If it's not different, then why have it at all?
