Title: failed to create empty document
Post by: dave.ruden on October 29, 2010, 07:51:45 am
Hello,
I just intalled EA (desktop edition), and on trying to run it, I get the error pop-up "failured to create empty document". The only option is to click OK, at which point, EA closes.

Has anyone else dealt with (and hopefully resolved) this problem?

I had the trial version installed, but it had expired.  I removed it prior to installing EA8.0 desktop.

Thanks!
---Dave.

That error usually means that one of the XML configuration files that EA is trying to read is empty.

Check for any XML files that are 0 bytes in length in:

- %PROGRAMFILES%\Sparx Systems\MDG Technologies
- %PROGRAMFILES%\Sparx Systems\EA
- %PROGRAMFILES%\Sparx Systems\EA\Config

If you can't find any, please send a registered support request to Sparx Support and we'll help you out from there.

This can also happen when your windows has run out of free GDI objects.
Close some windows (or restart the pc) and then try again in that case.

Must have been a 'resources' issue.  I rebooted and it works fine now.  Thanks to you both for your helpful replies!
