Hello,
the current official version Version 9, Build 904 doesn't work for me and for every my colleague that had tried install it.
After starting ea.exe only the message : Program stopped working: is shown.
Has anybody the same experience?

I have now used EA 9 (build 904) for some hours mainly checking features we use in some of our larger models. So far all worked as expected - I only onw problem when I tried to generate a huge report as a PDF directly. I got the error message 'run out of memory' ....

I have also experience the out of memory problem when running reports on large models. Funny enough I fixed it by getting more memory. :)

It obviously doesn't happen for everyone, I'd recommend first re-downloading the installer and re-installing.
If that doesn't work then you'll need to send in a bug report and provide as much information about your environment as possible.

I downloaded version 9.0.904.50 of the installer yesterday and it seems to work fine for me.

Hi lubos
I am having the same problem.
When I launch the program I get the following error: "Enterprise Architect - UML Development Tool has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
-
I'm also facing the same issue. My System config:
core i5, Windows 7 64 bit Professional, 4gb ram
I did get the "UML component has stopped" error once but mostly the EA.exe crashes without giving any message.
Windows event logs show:
Faulting application name: EA.exe, version: 9.0.0.904, time stamp: 0x4dd1f52a
Faulting module name: EA.exe, version: 9.0.0.904, time stamp: 0x4dd1f52a
Exception code: 0xc0000005

I downloaded the trial version of EA V9.0 last night.
It installed fine on Windows 7 Home Edition 64-bit, iCore 5, 6GB RAM and ran fine without any problems for a couple hours.
Is it possible you guys who are having problems are running in a corporate environment where the system admins have tinkered with the operating system for one reason or another and broke it? :-/

Hi Sunshine
This happens whether we install the application on a workstation that is a member of a domain or a standalone system with no restrictions.

I have been getting various crashes on each of the 9.0 releases. Today's was related to creating a linked document. Unfortunately, I've not been able to debug them. Kind of hard to believe I can crash it in several ways just by using it. Maybe I'm a super power user pushing the envelope. Nope. I don't think that's it.

Just installed 9.0.904 on a Windows 7 (64 bit) in a standalone (home) environment.
No issues so far...

Coleague with WIN 7 has no problems.
Most of us has Vista.
We will do further investigations.... but may be the win version could be the reason...

I have the same problem. I am running two machines, both Win7 64-bit. On one machine I had v7.5 installed previously and v9 crashes upon startup. On the other machine I did not have any version of EA installed previously and v9 works fine.
-
Got a similar error to #intrepid, program had to shut down, lost a bit of work but nothing too hectic.
Using Windows 7 64-bit (see a pattern?) :-?
-
Sounds like it might be some weird environment problem so as Simon M suggests you should raise a bug report and provide Sparks with as much info as you can.
i.e.
- Version, build and Edition of Enterprise Architect
- License mechanism - float or fixed
- Operating system version, service pack & hot fixes
- Hardware details such as make & model, processor, ram, etc
As the problem occurs right at startup its possible that it might be something like the floating license mechanism. :-/
The V9 demo I tested uses a fixed license.
-
I have the problem with both the demo version and the full version. We use a floating license for the full version.
-
Same problem as #stefanka, but we use a fixed license for the full version.

Could it be that, there are registry entries left from previous EA installs because of which the latest version crashes? I installed 9.904 on Ubuntu using wine and it works.

According to the release notes this should be fixed in build 905.

Judging by the ongoing problems that people appear to be having with 905, the "potential crash" fixed in 905 wasn't the one that users are reporting.
Unfortunately, that means that we haven't been able to identify the problem here. So, any bug reports you can send in would be great.
Please make sure to include all of the following.
- EA Build number.
- Operating System and Version.
- A list of currently running applications. (Process Explorer can give this)
-
The root cause is most likely related to the registry entries left from previous installations which cause 9.904/5 to crash.
