Automation Interface, Add-Ins and Tools / Publishing to Joomla running in a VM

I have a version of Joomla up and running in virtualbox and I am trying to publish our project to it.
I can setup and test a ODBC connection to it, however when I run the EA publish to Joomla button it asks me for a joomla folder.
The documentation indicates this is the "C:\xampp\htdocs (if you have installed XAMPP).". However because I am not running xampp, this makes no sense, but the publish will not operate unless something is put in there
How do I publish to a external instance of Joomla without having XAMPP installed?
