Suggestions and Requests / Re: HTMLWidget in EA
« on: August 17, 2007, 05:20:12 am »
Is there a market palce somewhere so I can hire a poor sole to do that ;D

As I noted in an other psot: I have no clue about OLE/COM/.Net  in that depth and no intention to fiddel with MS technologies.

Suggestions and Requests / HTMLWidget in EA
« on: August 16, 2007, 05:10:14 am »

another "wiered" idea: would it probably possible via the Add In API to have a HTML widget in the area where you have the properties/pan&zoom views?

Background is: I like to keep stuff like UC Texts either in a Wiki or in an Eclipse project.

It would be cool if the EA could display a web page that is referenced via an automatism, or via a tagged value, when a node is selected.

I have a use case "Create Customer" and some where is configured that my URL for Use Case Texts is:{name of usecase}

Or I configure:{name of usecase}.html

There only needs to be a string which uses a parameter substitution schema like the Tools under the Tools menu in EA.

More important is: when I create an issue in EA I like to have  a corresponding issue created in the issue tracker.

Yepp, that is the idea, however I hoped to inspire one of the more advanced hackers to do that. I'm personally not very vomfortable with .Net / MS development ... I use EA only to write Java Software ^u^

P.S. Edit: haha, found the modify link, thanx and can fix the typos here ... hehe

I know about that feature.

No, it should be a little bit AJAX or RPC like: EA should display the content of the JIRA issue inside of an EA Requirement or EA Issue. By using the XML-RPC features most issue trackes offer, it should be possible to have a configuration section where you configure the url of the tracker, how to know about new issues and how to catch the Name and Description (which might be put in the note)

It is to time consuming to create issues in EA and link them to Jira and copy/paste issue names from Jira to EA.

we use Jira from as issue tracker. Mainly we track bugs and high level requirements there. I would like to link (and basically even create) requirements/issues in EA with URL in the Jira.

Jira has an XMP/RPC interface. The Eclipse Mylar plugin does something similar.

Bottom line I like to have diagrams with nodes ;D and the data of the nodes should be in an external issue tracker ... Jira, Bugzilla what-ever.

Any hints ... ideas?

Suggestions and Requests / Re: More "Types" for "Import Compon
« on: August 15, 2007, 05:13:50 am »
Yes: Orthogonal?

Yes, I find it slightly disturbing that the UI of EA often treats some "classifiers" special and does not allow the others.

E.g. "Code Engineering -> Genereate Source Code ..." does not work on "Screens" in the "User Interface Model" section nor on Use Cases or Actors in the "Use Case Model" section.

I know for a lot of ppl this makes sence (or in other words they never would do what I want to do), however I like to use the code templates of the code generator to generate the UI from my model ... but can't ;D

Also I like to keep lots of stuff external in single files (under version controll, and edited inside eclipse) and the source code engineering sections for component types looks good for that.

Suggestions and Requests / More "Types" for "Import Component
« on: July 31, 2007, 03:26:43 am »

I just introduced EA at I wonder why I can import Actors (configure under Tools -> Options ... -> "Source Code Engineering" -> [Component Types]) but not Use Cases.

Wouldn't it be more ortogonal to allow all types to be imported? E.g. for Use Cases I like to have files called "*.uc", which are text files. The imported text could go to the "notes" section of the UML element.

Is there any way to add some more types to this configuration dialog?

IMHO it should be trivial to support tagged values in export and import!

Even multivalues should be easy if you have a user defineable seperator (different from the standard column seperator).

For me its really important to be able to attach informations to artifacts, where the information is maintaned outside of EA.

Currently I'm forced to abuse the Keywords and Alias fields of an classifier ... and thats confusing for the people using the csv files.

Does anyone probably have a home grown solution for CSV im/export?

That would be nice for me as well, especially if all the other features like enums are supported as well!!

Suggestions and Requests / Re: Actors Notes into Glossary as definitions
« on: August 05, 2004, 03:10:30 am »
I think the other way around would be more usefull!

A note should be connected with a trace to any UML element, e.g. a tag, a note field or a glossary entry.

E.g. you double click on a class and use the rigth mouse button to make an UML note from the note field in the class. That note is then automaticaly connected to the class it stems from with a trace link.

Suggestions and Requests / Re: XMI Bug

Oops, I was jsut about to forward some mails from the MDR mailing list and realized you are familiar with that tool as well. So I asume you are on the MDR list?

« on: July 02, 2004, 07:01:11 am »
I'm not sure if that is a bug (because I'm not sure if I understood you correct).

The dark side of the OMG is: MOF, UML and XMI nearly never have been standards which where in synch.

It regulary was the case that for the same version numbers of those standards, e.g UML 1.1 and XMI 1.1, no 1 : 1 mapping from UML to XMI  existet.

This is a big problem. Especially as tool vendors e.g. implement UML 1.4 and support XMI import for XMI 1.0 or XMI 1.1 or XMI 1.0 plus Unisys Extensions ... and so forth.

As far as I know UML 2.0 with MOF 2.0 (or eMOF ?) and XMI 2.0 will be the first standard where all aspects of modelling are unified. (That albeit where UML 2.0 is final now but MOF 2.0 still in work)

Suggestions and Requests / Re: Generalised (non-UML) drawing
« on: June 30, 2004, 06:34:31 am »

there are other case systems supporting general drawing: ArgoUML / Gentleware Posidon or MagigDraw for instance.

General drawing is oftne needed ... but I agree thatits not needed to transform EA into that. However a way to make slides from a set of diagrams, that would be usefull!! Now we have to export diagrams and import those into a slide tool like PowerPoint.

For the original question: Try using stereotypes and register .EMF or .WMF files for them.

You can configure EA to use for a certain type (class or usecase etc.) a defined meta file graphic in case you attach a certain stereotype to that type.

I for instance have exported some graphic images from PowerPoint as EMF Files and registered those in EA. Actors of stereotype <<database>> are now drawn in use case diagrams in the typical cylindric way.

Objects of stereotype <<file>> are drawn as paper sheets with one easels ear.

Hope that helps,

Suggestions and Requests / Configure ReportView of Diagram
« on: May 14, 2004, 07:20:42 am »

it would be nice if the report view of the diagram was configurable just like a CSV import/export.

Basicly the look and useability is *great* however I need at least the attribute 'priority' on the RTF view, otherwise I would need to make CSV exports and convert them to RTF with an other tool.

CSV exports have the drawback that they do not escape newlines in notes etc. so the export is not easy to import if you like to export notes as well.

I could imagine that you can export/import a template for the RTF view somewhere, but I could not figure if thats the case.

Suggestions and Requests / Automatic model check for completeness
« on: March 12, 2004, 03:51:58 am »

a way to check a model for completeness ... e.g. all operation arguments having a type, would be cool.

I could imagine a note placed on every diagram describing what is wrong there and probably a red cross or something at the packages in the model browser to show that there is something open (line in an IDE).
