General Board / Re: Resources for EA 16

Scriptlets look interesting. https://sparxsystems.in/scriptlets-in-enterprise-architect-16-a-step-beyond-static-view/

Have any users used them?  What are your thoughts on their utility?

Are they only available for JavaScript or can other scripting languages be used?

TIA,
Paolo

Wonder how Scriptlets will behave in WebEA?

Henrik

AFAIK, this is a modellers' utility, if the modeler reloads the diagram, the changes must be propagated automatically to WebEA or Prolaborate.

Whilst I haven't tested it yet, Changing a tagged value from Prolaborate or WebEA and saving it must be similar to changing a name of an element, the diagram cache will be reloaded when the diagram is reloaded in EA the next time ( I will try to confirm this soon )

WE've had a number of instances in the pat where users request for linked Tagged Values that are dynamically updated based on other tags, and we've also had requests to validate models based on modelled tags. We have been using normal PB Scripts or Diagram Scripts to achieve this ,  we are now working on converting some of this logic to Scriptlets.

As these are executed on 'Reload' of the diagram, it makes it incredibly efficient to maintain (previously we were at the EA Admins' mercy to run the script to recompute the values)

We are working on the config changes for our clients and must be rolled out to Production in a few weeks.

Suggestions and Requests / Re: RealtimeUML Addin

Hello AntonS

There is an XMI processing tool that can produce C code from EA state machines.

I am more interested in Ada and C code generation from EA.

Martyn

We are working on ADA language support and that too can be expected in the next major release of EA.

Thanks Kevin

We are busy evaluating EA and comparing it to VP-UML.
From a code generation point of view this seems to be the big difference in that VP-UML  generate code from state diagrams.

Do you know if EA will be supporting code generation for Microsoft Workflow Foundation?

Anton

EA's RTUML beta shall demonstrate EA's capability to generate code from state diagrams. We are working on integrating this and also code generation from interaction diagrams and activity diagrams into EA 7.5, which shall be expected to be on market in early 2009.

We do have plans to support code generation from Microsoft Workflow foundation in future.. But i'm sorry i cant promise a concrete expectancy time frame at the moment.

We appreciate your support and suggestions..

General Board / Re: Requirement Hierarchy

Jon
There are some very good suggestions here, adding to 'em, have you considered these...
  • Template Fragments gives us a greater control to group nested requirements as separate sections in document (e.g. Tables )
  • Also nesting in the documentation is directly related to how it is in the PB, and has very little to do with diagrams, so it might be worth to see if the nesting is reflected in the PB.

General Board / Re: Storing a static string in Enterprise Architec
« on: May 15, 2014, 08:53:06 pm »
Are you trying to associate a string value to an element? if so tagged values are a good option.

Whilst, I'm not sure what would a global variable mean in a model, you can consider using artifacts or notes,

If you are after setting paths to be known for all your files, consider using Local Paths,
If you can elaborate a lil more on what exactly you are trying to achieve with a static string value, it may help ppl give suggestions

Nobody wants to pay for two models as it's double the work
May be not, it depends on how important is your as-is model, and who all refers to those as-is models or where it is published.
Not sure if business users would want to see and understand whatever is gonna be there in the next decade!

IMHO its not double work, as long as it is planned properly and done by the right team

Stu
You might also consider this,
For some of my clients, we've setup two repositories, one, the prod and one being the dev repository. We created this by copying the dev from prod, to start with.
All the changes, including new relationships to as-is components are added in the Dev repository, which is shared by all the projects in progress at any point of time.
When the project is ready for deployment, the changes are merged to the Prod repository (using diff / merge in EA, as these models are just a copy of each other, with same element GUIDs).
They are finding it useful, 'cos
  • All the projects that are in progress will share the to-be system.
  • Merging the changes is relatively easier with the  Diff/Merge tool
  • The Prod (BAU) systems are safe, and isolated from unwarranted changes.

Askar,
you can also consider achieving this with Model Transformations. Where you can have your imported model transformed into the controllers and commands you would like to create.

Look for more information in
http://www.sparxsystems.com/enterprise_architect_user_guide/9.3/model_transformation/mdastyletransforms.html

You can try one of the built-in transforms (refer http://www.sparxsystems.com/enterprise_architect_user_guide/9.3/model_transformation/builtintransformations.html)
