I've used Postgres as a backend for EA models. Now I'm setting up a model that will be developed by people on both coasts in the United States (about 4,000 km apart) and network performance will be an issue. Anyone using Pro Cloud Server? How's the performance? Any suggestions? Thanks.

As per our experience, the performance was better when we connected using PCS when compared with server connections. We tried connecting to EA models hosted on AWS.

You can give it a try anyway! PCS can be used for free to enable cloud connection to models.

Suggestions and Requests / Re: Portals pain
« on: February 27, 2020, 12:24:44 am »

When you turn on the Portal pane, e.g. Start > Desktop > Design > Portal
its not immediately obvious how to make it go away again
* it doesnt toggle away
* it doesn't have the usual push pin or close (x) control
* the hamburger menu doesn't help
Turns out you have to RMB on the "Portal" title bar to find the context menu which lets you autohide it.

Suggestion: Have the Portal pane follow the UI conventions of other panes,

thus reducing the pain

PCS General Board / Re: PCS integration with Jira and Confluence

Arshad has perfectly explained what an EA user will be able to do with PCS integration.

Here are some links that talk about what business or non-EA users will be able to do:
Confluence integration
Jira integration

We will able to help you better if you can share your goals.

can I install PCS and WebEA on a separate/new VM server and point PCS and WebEA to the current database?

Absolutely! Just ensure the required ports are accessible.

PCS General Board / Re: Capability Maps with maturity built in

Hi everyone, apologies am new to this forum if this has already been covered please direct me to the right place.

Am avid Archimate 3 user and am on a journey to develop an organisation wide capability heat map.  The heat piece is a maturity lense I like to use to show the organisation where opportunities lie and/or improvements could be made.  I could manually apply colors to the elements or I'd rather use an element attribute to do this more systematically.  Has anyone done this before and if so how.  Ideas/guidance would be appreciated.

Cheers ... Herminator

You can visualize the impact in multiple ways using Sparx Prolaborate. It lets you build many kinds of charts, visualizations, and reports based on EA data (Properties, tagged values, relationships, etc.)

Check out the visualization capabilities here:

Impact visualization can be seen here:

If interested, you can take a trial to check if it matches your requirements.

We are using confluence for documenting our architecture. However, the single source of truth is the model in EA. What is the best way to keep the two in sync WITHOUT additional plug-ins? We current do a copy and paste of diagrams at the moment. I don't like this method because the Notes section of an element may have updates as well.

Sparx Prolaborate enables you to publish live architecture information to your Confluence pages straight from your Enterprise Architect models. This eliminates the manual efforts needed to publish contents.

The attributes are sorted alphabetically right? I guess that's the way it is as of now.

General Board / Re: WebEA: Embed read-only diagram

"1) Users can navigate away from the diagram to other parts of the model in the IFRAME. I don't want that."
This is not possible as we don't get the link to that diagram. The link we get is that of the page and so, we see the complete page in Confluence
You can raise this point in "Suggestions and Requests" forum.

"2) If I embed a second diagram on a different confluence page and come back to my original page, the second diagram shows instead of the first. This is because the cookie for the user is saving the last diagram the user saw and WebEA shows that diagram regardless of what DiagramID is being passed to it. "
This works fine for me. I switch between two pages in Confluence and I see the diagrams which I have embedded. Maybe, do a hard refresh and try once.

Hello BuddyRobbins,

What you get for images is not byte-array but base-64 encoded string. You can use it directly as image source.

As per your code, you can use "node" as image source.

As far as we have checked, it is purely built for Sparx.

Time taken to generate cache depends on the number of diagrams and documents in your EA Project or Model. EA normally freezes during this process and comes back to life when the process is over. I have generated cache for tons of models but this process has never failed even once.

"Where is that cache data stored? In the model DB I suppose, right?"
You are absolutely right. It is stored in t_document table.
