General Board / InformationFlows
« on: June 10, 2008, 09:47:49 pm »
I have a problem: I would like to get a list of all InformationFlows to/from a specific SysML block in my model, and the information item(s) conveyed on each of them. (Advanced>Information items conveyed...)

I tried the 'Generate RTF Documentation', and by checking the Connector box (under Elements), I can print e.g. the Source and Target for each InformationFlow, but I can't find a way to print the information item that I have specified for each InformationFlow...?

I then tried the 'Model search', but didn't find a way to use the Query builder to do what I wanted, so I then tried to make a custom SQL filter. I manage to filter out all InformationFlows by specifying

SELECT * from t_connector WHERE Connector_Type = 'InformationFlow'

but now I still don't know how to get the information item(s) for each flow.
Help is appreciated... :'(

Whilst you could use tags to add extra meta-data to your model, I'm not convinced from what you have said that this would be the right thing to do. For example sequence diagrams can be used to capture timing constraints.
Here is some background information: I am modeling a system according to MoDAF*, and in the view "OV-2" I define the operational nodes and their information exchange (on a high level).

In the view "OV-3", there should be a table with details for the information exchanges in "OV-2" - e.g. type of information, frequency/size, security classification, etc.

I was hoping to be able to generate the OV-3 table from the attributes/tagged values of the flows specified in the OV-2.

General Board / Newbie question regarding SysML flows in EA
« on: May 20, 2008, 05:58:05 am »
Sorry about an EA/SysML newbie question:

I have defined a number og SysML blocks, and a number of flows (ItemFlow) between the blocks. For each flow, I want to specify a number of "attributes" - frequency, item size, and a few more, specific to my project. Same set of attributes for all flows, but different values.

I guess that I should somehow use FlowProperty and/or FlowSpecification, but I don't realize quite how to do it...?

Thanks in advance!

Bugs and Issues / Re: Problem with "Synchronize Tags and Constraints

I updated to build 832, but I still have the same problem.

Bugs and Issues / Problem with "Synchronize Tags and Constraints
« on: August 26, 2008, 08:44:23 pm »
I created a Profile that contains a Stereotype with some custom tagged values. In a model I then created some elements using the Stereotype.

I then add yet another tagged value to the Stereotype, save the profile again, and import the updated Profile. I then used "Synch Tagged Values and Constraints ", and expected the previously created elements to also get the new tagged value, but that doesn't happen...?

Have I misunderstood something, or is this a bug?

Bugs and Issues / Activity diagram vs Block diagram
« on: May 27, 2008, 05:55:04 am »
Perhaps I have misunderstood something about SysML and/or EA here?

I have 2 SysML blocks - A and B - with an InformationFlow from A to B. I right-click on the InformationFlow and (under Advanced->Information  Items Conveyed...) I specify a third block (X) to indicate the kind of information that is transferred.

I then create an activity diagram, with two AllocateActivityPartitions. Under "Advanced->Instance classifier..." I specify A for the first partition, and B for the second partition. I then create an Object flow from an Activity in the "A partition" to an Activity in the "B partition".

Is there any support in EA to keep the static definitions of the block diagram consistent with the dynamic definitions in the activity diagram?

It seems as if I manually must specify in the activity diagram that X flows from A to B (even though I specified such an Information flow in the block diagram...?).

Thanks in advance!

Bugs and Issues / Object Flows in Activity Diagrams

When I add an object flow in a (SysML) avtivity diagram, it gets the "action pin format" (see second picture in the Help section "Object Flows in Activity Diagrams") by default, and I can't figure out how to get the "explicit" format (see first picture)...?

None of the commands under right-click->Pin end(s)-> seems to make any difference, and I can't find any option for this in Tools->Options, but it must be there somewhere??

Thanks in advance!

it seems to me you expected the "Show Stereotypes" option to show stereotypes as objects in the project browser, but that's not what it does.
Exactly, I misunderstood the Help documentation.  :-[ Thanks...

Now, what I really wanted to do was to somehow "open" my custom stereotype, and define tagged values for it. I don't understand how to do that... (due to a bug in my brain?)

Bugs and Issues / Can't see custom stereotype in Project browser
« on: May 20, 2008, 08:44:14 pm »
I added a custom stereotype according to the "Custom Stereotypes" section in the on-line help. (Except that I can't see a browse button as described in step 4 ("To associate a Metafile with... "))

I then followed the steps under "Show Stereotypes" in the help section "Set Default Project Browser Behavior", re-started EA end expected the custom stereotype to appear in the Project browser, but it didn't...

What am I doing wrong? I use EA 7.1.

Uml Process / Re: Change multiplicity of property
« on: May 18, 2015, 05:36:51 pm »
I'm quite new to EA and UML and, embarrassingly enough, I'm not sure :-[ but probably "A owns a part "Part1" of type B"...?

I think that the person who created the model added a new class A to a CompositeStructure diagram, and then "dragged" class B into class A and selected "Paste as: Property".

Uml Process / Change multiplicity of property
« on: May 13, 2015, 10:10:39 pm »
Class A has a property of class B.

Class B has a property of class C, with multiplicity 3. I want to change this value.

Class A is shown in a Composite structure diagram, with B and C visible.
If I right-click on C in the diagram, select Properties and try to change its multiplicity, the OK button is disabled.

Instead, I locate class B in the project browser, locate its property C, right-click, select Properties and change the multiplicity to 5. Looks ok.

In the diagram mentioned above, C is still shown with multiplicity 3. Is this really the expected behaviour? After all, class B has been updated, but class A does not seem to care... :)

Uml Process / Time perspective
« on: October 27, 2008, 06:23:21 pm »
When modeling systems of systems (in SysML) it would be nice to be able to illustrate a "time perspective" in the relations between systems/SysML blocks, e.g. that one block has an association to blocks A, B and C today, but due to end-of-life, will instead be associated to systems A and D in five years, and systems D and E in ten years.

Any tips how this should be modelled?

Uml Process / Newbie questions: Activity diagram
« on: June 05, 2008, 03:25:30 am »
Hope you donīt mind these rather basic UML/EA-questions:

First question:
Suppose you create an activity 'Make breakfast', make it composite, and then define a few "sub-activities", e.g. 'Slice bread', 'Get butter', 'Make coffee' etc.

Then you create another activity 'Bake a cake', make it composite too, and define its sub-activities. Doing so, you realize that you want to use one of the previously created sub-activities ('Get butter'). But that activity "belongs to" 'Make breakfast'?! How should I handle this situation in EA?

Second question:
After creating a lot of activities, I decide that I actually want 'Make breakfast' and 'Bake a cake' to become sub-activities of a new structured activity 'Xyz'. How do I achieve that in EA?

Automation Interface, Add-Ins and Tools / Conditions in RTF reports?
« on: November 07, 2008, 09:29:37 pm »
Is it possible to specify a condition in an RTF template, e.g. in order to only include connections of a certain type in the report? (I only want an element's aggregations to be listed, not all connections...)

If this isn't possible today - is it planned in the future?

I would be really grateful for a comment that indicates if this is something that should work according to my expectations or not, and if so, when it will be implemented.
