Suggestions and Requests / note editor

You can enter a note in the properties of an object, but sometimes you want the note to have more functionalities like:

• Nested numbers
• a Table
• Horizontal rule
• Indenting
• Spellchecking

Even this forum editor has more functionalities  ;)

Would this be possible in the near future?
(Or perhaps an integration with an external editor)

Suggestions and Requests / re-order selected objects

If I select multiple objects in the project browser, I can drag & drop them somewhere else. But I can't press the "move up" or "move down" arrows, to manually reorder them.

I know this it perhaps somehow confusing, if the objects are not next to each other.

Perhaps only enable it, when the objects are next to each other .

It would be nice, if the spell-check was shareable across project-members. Or some instruction in how to merge them into a final version....

Suggestions and Requests / search via sql

I like to see more examples on how to use this.

I tried some things, but I can't just keep on trying.
Is there a database structure somewhere that would help me?

I would like to search on objects of a specific type, with some specific tagged values. I did look in this forum, but didn't find much help.

If I click on a Use Case, there is a tab, where I can see, which elements are linked with the Use Case. It would be very nice, to see the same functionality on a Requirement.

I know you can see it in a Relationship Matrix. And also how to make it visible on a diagram. But... those are not the "fast lane" options.

Suggestions and Requests / Export & Import... Missing stuff

I wonder if this is normal:
I export an proff. edition EAP file complete into an XMI (2.1 version).
I import it into an OracleDb with a Corp. edition.
And with a check, we saw some file references missing, and some maintenance stuff missing.

So this seems not to be trusted. So, now I am in deep Sh!t.

I need a quick fix, a good advise or something. I have 14 people standing around my desk, just waiting to kill me.

Addition 1:
The exported XMI holds the file references and the maintenance information!
So it looks like the import isn't working. Today my trust in EA is below sealevel. How can this happen?

Addition 2:
Just filed a priority bug, with my ea_xmi_export.
The good news is, I'm still alive.

Addition 3:
Made a new local EAP-file, with the Prof.edition, imported the xmi-file, and the stuff missing, is visible. So my conclusion is, it must be something with the corporate edition, and/or with the oracleDB.

Addition 4:
Deleted the complete model in oracle, and then did a integrity check.
It mentioned 2 things, stangly enough. I let EA fix those things.
(Actually, tehy were deleted.) And imported the XMI file again.
It seems okay, but. since now my trust is very, very low. I'm gonna
export the oracleDb into another xmi-XML-dump, and use a compare tool to really check if everything is allright.
That brings up another question: Why didn't the importer mention the skipping of certain stuff? I find it scary.

Addition 5:
The XML is different of the 2 databases. Mostly because of of some EA-ID's and other stuff. So I deleted those just to compare them further. Now some localID's are different, so I deleted them too. I reordered the 2 files, to make a correct compare. (Every line is now in alphabetical order. And you know what? Still differences! This is becoming more scary. But... I'm still alive :-) and did order my collegues not to work on the corporate edition and, not to import & export ever again, until I say so. They have to retype stuff into other databases. Yes, they really love me, lucky me.....

Suggestions and Requests / solution wanted: multi-user

We are working on an oracle set, and various users can simultaniously edit the same object, package or... stuff like that.
The object saved is the one of the slowest person that saves.

What is the best solution for this?

I know there is:
- Locking
- Audit facilities
- Baseline Difference

For the first one: what if someone locks, and dies behind the keyboard. is it overridable?

For the last 2, does it mean I have to check before and after each save, if my object is changed. (And do I have to do additional stuff for it?)

Some advice on this would be handy.

Suggestions and Requests / Export/import template stuff

If I have 2 EAP-files, one (TEST) with some experimental templating, filters, document options, I would like to export such a template, and import it into thereal one (WORK).

However, the export/import option doesn't do anything with my document options, and filters, that were set as attributes on the template, so I now have to compare visually, and do stuff all over again.

Any hints on how to do this the right way?

And if there is no right way, please make this work.

When I do the Report Only option, I see there are some "problems".

There is no mention about what happens if you try to Recover/Clean them.

This is what I see:
Invalid attributename
Attribute:102
Propose: set to unknown
What did cause this. Can I avoid it in the future?
Why didn't EA report me the name, such as invalid attributename "Marcelloh" or something, so I could look for it?

Missing GUID's
Attribute GUID
Propose: update GUID's
Why are they missing? Is EA inconsistent? Is this my fault?
Can I avoid it in the future?

Invalid attribute ....
Propose: delete attribute
What does this mean? Is this my fault? Can I avoid it in the future?

Elements: Child package ID does not match parent
Propose: Reset child element parent id
What does this mean? Is this my fault? Can I avoid it in the future?

Object parent invalid
Propose: Reset parent to NULL
What does this mean? Is this my fault? Can I avoid it in the future?

It's like there is a strange warning light burning on the dashboard of my car, and I can't read anywhare what happend really when I press the "Magic Button" that says "All problems will be solved".[/highlight]

I really want more info, and not some sunny day scenario as help file....

I have a windows-user-id like this "AB77T9442Q"

If I enter an element, it will put in my user credentials as author.
So the author becomes AB77T9442Q
I have to change this (all the time) into Marcello Hasdoneit
There must be an easy way to do this, I hope.
Like: when the people-table has some kind of knowlegde about my windows-credentials and my real user name.

BTW: there are some fields too, where I can't change the author.
(Like a note on a diagram)

If I have a report for every use case in a big project, I like some structure, so some maps (or packages) inside this view would be handy.

Strange isn't it, to want structure ;-)

Suggestions and Requests / Change order of Model Document attributes

If I use the project browser, I can see "inside a Model Document".
I see every package that I want to document. But it is impossible to change the order here  :-/.

I know you can do this via the attributes of a Model Document, but thats a lot more "user unfriendly" mouseclicks.

I can have a linked document on an Document Artifact.
That should give me a lot of possibilities.

But if I use this, there is no way how to get this into a document.

The manual should give me some info, I suppose.

why can't I create one there?
(I think, the create element is missing there.)
