General Board / Project Calendar
« on: July 16, 2011, 04:16:52 am »
I installed EA 9 and tried to use a Project Calendar. I have a project open (following along in Learning Center / Project Calendar but I don't see anything like View | Calendar.

General Board / Debug and Command window
« on: March 24, 2008, 11:53:51 pm »
I have successfully set up my app so it runs (it is a console app) and I can also debug (set breakpoints, etc).  The problem is, I don't see the console app window under debug-- I see my output messages (System.out) in the Output tab and, even though I turn on console, the console window is empty.  I have no way of entering info to my console app under debug (again, just running it works fine).  Any ideas?

General Board / RTF Heading Style
« on: May 26, 2005, 07:03:20 am »
How do I change a (new) RTF template so headings 1 - 9 show as numbered?

1 Heading1
1.1 Heading2
1.1.1 Heading3

Gotta say-- not too thrilled with the doc on rtf templates.
Plus, I have to gen multiple rtfs because when I try to include too mauch it takes forever (basic template) and then just hangs.

General Board / Testing and requirements
« on: April 21, 2005, 06:36:28 am »
I'm trying to A) map requirements to test cases and B) integrate scenarios with their related test cases.  Is there any doc besides the "help"?  Also, under Scenario Testing there is supposedly a "Defined Tests" capability which is described as a "List of defined tests associated with this element." but there is nothing like that shown in the scenario test cases window.  It sounds like a way to associate individual pre-existing tests with a scenario.  EA seems so close to letting me do what I want but ends up being extremely frustrating instead.  Any help would be appreciated.  One final thought: would it be useful if tests could "stand by themselves" (like requirements) so we wouldn't have to search elements for them-- or am I missing something else?

General Board / EAExample.eap - where's the attr info?
« on: February 18, 2005, 05:33:02 am »
In EAExample.eap > Explore Example Diagrams > Deployment Diagrams > Deployment Model:- Showing node instances representing cards...

In the node ZH0001-- attributes and their values are listed.  Where are those values coming from?

General Board / Generate Code With Spaces Instead of Tabs
« on: September 23, 2003, 02:51:46 pm »
For the life of me I can't figure out how to tell EA to use spaces instead of tabs when it generates Java source code.  Surely there's a way-- tabs are evil and are to be despised in source code!

General Board / Sequence Diagram- branch with previous message
« on: January 21, 2003, 07:28:52 am »
I finally discovered "branch with previous message" which helps showing conditions more clearly but I wish you could nest them (since many times conditions are nested).  I also wish there was a way to include self-messages in "branch with previous".  Does anyone have any ideas on how to handle nested conditionals in Sequence Diagrams?

I'd like to use sequence diagrams to show as little or as much logic as I think necessary but the restriction of one level of nesting stymies that (is this an EA restriction or a UML restriction?).  If anyone has ideas I'd appreciate hearing them though I expect I'm "abusing" sequence diagramming by trying to use it to document in detail what's really going on (a couple methods are real stinkers and need this level of detail documented).

I can always sprinkle notes around and refer to source code but that hardly seems like a good design/document methodology.  This will probably start some UML flaming and reverential references to the three amigos but I just have to say that there is no reason Sequence Diagrams couldn't be used to describe more conditional activity (IF DESIRED) without detracting from their current capabilities.

And, BTW, I love Enterprise Architect.

General Board / Directory Synchronization
« on: October 18, 2002, 01:44:22 pm »
Synchronization continues to be extremely frustrating.  Most of the time I get duplicate classes when I synchronize existing classes when I Import Directory Structure (which the Help says can be used to synchronize many files at once).  When I look at the database records the only difference I see between the original class and the duplicated class is the ID number (the filepath is the same).  I HAVE to maintain the original class because it is referenced in so many other places-- yet instead of synchronizing EA seems to just add a duplicate.

General Board / Defect and Change Reporting
« on: July 11, 2002, 07:59:44 am »
After I have input changes and defects on various objects, packages, views, etc. how can I create a report that shows all changes and defects?  The only ones I can see are on individual objects-- views and package defects/changes don't seem to appear anywhere.  Also, is it possible to produce a report which ONLY shows changes and defects instead of having to know which package/view/object has defects and changes in the first place?

General Board / Out Of Memory
« on: May 24, 2002, 08:03:07 am »
When trying to import a C++ header file I get "Out of Memory" after a while.  This has happened using builds 490 and 491.  Before them I successfully imported this header file several times.  One thing I noticed was this header file contains a lot of ENUMs.  Has anyone else experienced "Out of Memory" recently?

General Board / Sequence Diagram Copy/Paste
« on: April 19, 2002, 12:58:04 pm »
When I copy a sequence diagram to the clipboard then paste (either shallow or deep) the result is basically garbage (various sequence elements unrelated to what I copied).  Is there a known problem or am I missing something?  I am using the latest build (482).

General Board / Package Sorting
« on: December 13, 2001, 01:00:33 pm »
I have hundreds of requirement entities in a package and they are out of sequence.  Sort doesn't seem to do anything (for any package).  What does sort do?  The only thing I can think of is to manually move up/down (bad enough, but with many entries, even one movement up takes seconds.  Am I missing something basic?
