Suggestions and Requests / Keyword filter for reporting
« on: November 16, 2005, 09:07:42 pm »
The current document options are useful for filtering types of objects, but not very good for picking out particular items.

It would be handy if we could specify a keyword contains ; similar to the current status =.

That would allow us to build any sort of categorization of elements and include them in various documentation as appropriate.

Thanks, Colin

Suggestions and Requests / Autonumbering and titles
« on: July 07, 2005, 05:14:18 pm »
Auto numbering is a nice adition but it is hard to use since you loose titles.

This would be much better if it generated the autonumber and leaves the title field free for entry.

Obviously this is more difficult as it involves adding a new field into all element types but it would make generating readable documentation very straightforward.

It is sometimes difficult when using the relationship matrix or drilling into external requirements from elements to find those requirements in the project.

It would be useful if there was a similar function to Alt-G to directly locate the requirement.

4
It would be extremely useful if the CSV import / export of requirements also included the package they are located in. This would make it much easier to maintain and create them in a seperate application.

Thanks, Colin

ps. Along similar lines, has anyone done any work on XSLT processing the XMI file into a format for access import ?(or any other database that could be used).

Suggestions and Requests / Appearance of process invocation
« on: March 02, 2005, 10:22:28 pm »
I have various business processes created, that I include in other processes to try and show common processes.

When I select invocation of a process, ie. describing a particular instance of the process, the appearance changes to a rectanglish object with a fork in the corner.

Is it possible to have this appear with the same appearance as the original processes, it is confusing for my business users as to why their is a new , unfamiliar icon type.

Thanks, Colin

General Board / Representing data attributes within BPMN
« on: July 17, 2007, 05:11:12 pm »
I am wondering what others do for representing the data objects in BPMN.

The Data Object provided is actually a UML Object, which can't have attributes.

I am guessing the reasoning is to keep the the data object at a very high level, then provide an implementation or trace link through to a Class; however it is useful to capture the high level attributes at the document level before drilling into data lengths etc. (eg. Name at high level; through to the detail of First name char (20) , Surname char (20)....

Any ideas?

General Board / Exporting XMI for Holocentric, change 1252 encoding
« on: November 07, 2006, 03:27:41 pm »
I am trying to export XMI models for import into Holocentric.

Holocentric is having problems with the XML encoding, is it possible to force EA to use UTF-8 encoding rather than windows-1252 ?

Thanks, Colin

General Board / Export testing information
« on: October 18, 2006, 07:38:01 pm »
I would like to track my system tests in EA, but would rather not have the various testers using the application.

Is it possible to do test exports / imports in a similar round trip fashion to requirements ? I couldn't see any way of doing this.

Cheers, Colin

General Board / Use Case Links are broken ?
« on: July 31, 2006, 07:12:53 pm »
I have a large number of Use Case Links in my model. These were generated by dragging Use Cases from the project view onto various Activity Diagrams. In this way I maintain linkages between different Use Cases in different business processes.

The problem is that the UseCaseLink this generates now appears to be broken. If I attempt to navigate to any other use cases from the Link tab in a Use Case I get an UnknownConnector:3552 UseCaseLink .  I'm sure this used to work.  Has anyone else experienced this or found any ways around it ?

I am using build 792

Thanks, Colin

General Board / Lost font formatting on a diagram
« on: April 11, 2006, 09:51:22 pm »
Hello all,

I've hit a problem with font formatting.

I did a select-all then chose a font size, thinking it would only effect the elements. It did update the elements, but only some, it doesn't seem to be able to update the fonts attatched to gateways, events or links (I'm using the BPMN plugin).

The fonts have now lost there ability to autosize, the main font for diagram itself is unreadably small and I can't expand it, and the labels are unreadable.

This is a fairly complex diagram that I really don't want to redo, but i need to print it.

Any ideas on how to get 'restore' the normal behaviour??

Thanks, Colin

General Board / Another BPMN question - sub processes
« on: February 14, 2006, 10:06:56 pm »
I have hit another PBMN issue, I am building the second level down, but am not sure how to illustrate embedded process flows.

I'm guessing they have been implemented as composite elements, however when I select an activity as a composite element and create a subprocess diagram the plus box is not appearing on the top level activity object.

Any ideas?

General Board / BPMN conditions on Sequence flow
« on: February 13, 2006, 04:20:59 pm »
Morning all,

I have just started been using the BPML model to represent a workflow and am hitting something I'm not sure how to do in EA.

I would like to apply conditions to sequence flows between activities to simply diagrams rather than using a gateway. These should be represented by a diamon shape in BPMN, but I cannot work out how to specify the condition or change the appearance.

Is the condition perhaps mapped into a EA guard?

Is there a correct BPMN (or UML) way to represent the choices made earlier further down in the flow.

For example,
I have a complex rule to work out if payment is required, this effects flow at a later stage, I can just indicate the condition in a textual form, but I'm wondering if there's a better way.

Thanks, Colin

General Board / How to 'key' documentation table from goals
« on: November 23, 2005, 07:45:39 pm »
I have a serious of processes I have modelled all of which have associated goals and produces outputs.

I would like to have the documentation generator produce a table of goals and list all processes they are associated with (via an association link).

While I can get it to list by processes and include all goals I can't work out any way for the other direction.

Basically I'm after a relatively detailed feature list and the processes they support for inclusion into another document.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Colin

General Board / Repeat last connector and stereotypes
« on: September 11, 2005, 07:13:59 pm »
I'm not sure if this is a bug or just an 'it doesn't quite do that'.

I am using the Erikkson-Penker extensions for some analysis, which require a reasonable amount of stereotyped associations.

When I use repeat last connector (F3) it will happily let me create an arrow etc. but it doesn't remember the stereotype that has been applied to the connector.

Not a major problem just a minor annoyance...

General Board / How to make colours work for status ?
« on: July 03, 2005, 07:12:43 pm »
I have been trying to set up status colours for my use case packages; I use status on the packages to indicate once I have derived technical requirements from each package.

I have applied the colour and enabled it for all diagrams in the options/tools menu but it does not effect the rendering of packages or requirements at all ?

Thanks, Colin
