okay I admit it, my eyes are getting 'old'.. 12pt fonts on a high-resolution screen are MURDER on my eyes as it causes strain.  On v13.0.1300, how can I do this? I already did the Start > Workspace > Preferences > Preferences > Diagram ? Appearance.. etc., but this isn't across the board.

TIA

I could've sworn I could set this (manually) in prior versions.  Am I wrong?

Thanks

General Board / Sharing/Distributing Version Control settings for a Repo
« on: December 01, 2016, 11:24:48 am »
Hi

We have version control enabled, as per: http://www.sparxsystems.com/enterprise_architect_user_guide/9.3/projects_and_teams/versioncontrolsetup.html

Is there way to 'export VC settings' (e.g. the SVN back-end server URL, and indeed the "Unique ID" on the "Version Control Settings" dialog box?

TIA

I have the option checked off for "Hide Properties Info Section".. but I still cannot see the windows (neither docked nor floating) for the properties. I tried 'Alt+1' keyboard shortcut and View-> Properties.

I'm running V12.1.1229 on Windows 7.   Has anyone run into this?

TIA
Gary

Suggestions and Requests / Question on EA.chm on download URL
« on: August 13, 2007, 09:12:32 am »
Hi,

Just decided to install build 815, from http://www.sparxsystems.com.au/registered/reg_ea_down.html.

I noticed that EAUserGuide.pdf (at http://www.sparxsystems.com.au/bin/EAUserGuide.pdf) is available, separate from the overall patch download (i.e. http://www.sparxsystems.com.au/securedownloads/EA70.zip).  This makes sense, so I know that there is only one 'most recent version' of this.

However, there are two EA.chm help files.  One at http://www.sparxsystems.com.au/bin/EA.chm (dated AUG-03-2007 and 7,784 kb), and the other that is included with the patch file (at 7,871 kb).

It's confusing as to which one is the more recent. I'm guessing it's the one that is included *with* the patchfile, but then the other version should be updated on the download page.

Cheers,
gary

Suggestions and Requests / "Import Package from XMI" should remembe
« on: February 27, 2007, 01:52:05 pm »
Hi,

EA Version 6.5.804 (Build:804), on Windows XP SP2

When I "Import Package from XMI", and then the "Select Import Filename" dialog comes up.. but it always starts in the EA root folder, instead of the last used one.

I have several XMI files to import, and it's a hassle having to retype in the full path ever time.  Can I request an enhancement to keep 'session-level' preferences?  By that I mean that the *next* time you start up EA, it can go back to the EA root folder.

thanks,
gary

General Board / SQL Server install using SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI
« on: October 30, 2015, 03:37:37 am »
Hi

We're moving to a central repo.  Has anyone had experience with Unicode or non-English (i.e. first nations) using this collation setting?

I'm used to utf8.

thanks

General Board / Shared central EA Repo
« on: October 03, 2015, 11:58:12 am »
Hi

My org has been sending .eap file back and forth, and now we're moving to a central RDBMS shared, and with User Security and Versioning enabled.  Here's my overview of the deployment.. http://pasteboard.co/15yIEDCO.png

My big question is "is it true than XMI imports/export to and from SubVersion/SparxEA have to go through the desktop client?".  TIA

General Board / "Reference Data" including user-created
« on: October 03, 2015, 06:34:58 am »
Hi

Step 2 from the online doc http://www.sparxsystems.com/enterprise_architect_user_guide/9.3/projects_and_teams/exportrefdata.html does a good job of explaining what can be included in 'Reference Data' when one imports and exports it.

Our Architecture Landscape will have 'common' systems, with published interfaces, that we wish to let other teams (who will be obtaining the projects via an Subversion Repo, using XMI 1.x) reference from their own projects, project which will not be 'common', but rather a line-of-business application.

So it's really 'Reference Data' for our organization (e.g. "Common Finance").  Is it as simple as ensuring they export this project in addition to Sparx's own "Reference Data"?

And then we lock down the 'common' systems so that no-one can check in any unauthorized changes?

TIA

General Board / BPMN Message attributes/paramaetesr
« on: April 15, 2014, 08:11:50 am »
Hi

I searched for 'bpmn', 'message', 'attributes' but found nothing on this.  How could I represent interaction between our business activities and services provided by external systems?

So if we need to lookup a Client from an external and shared  'Common Client' service, how do I show 'send clientID, dateValid' and expect 'clientName, clientType, contactName'?

This is at a requirements level, and so maybe it's too low-level for BPMN?  Some people here are simply putting in the the logical data model but it seems wierd to model structural attributes for a behavior that is partly external.

TIA

General Board / EA 11 "Team Review"
« on: July 01, 2014, 04:53:41 am »
Hi

I just installed the newer version and note, in Model Views -> Recent Team Review.  I also see in Sparx's "Enterprise Architect 11 Reviewer's Guide' that:
"The Enterprise Architect Team Review facility helps users to discuss the development and progress of a project. Team members can view and post messages within the modeling environment and can
link their posts directly to elements within
the model. "

I see the Elements Discussion window, but how do I link the exact element the property/text I'm commenting on?

General Board / V10.0.1007 Deployment Diagram element
« on: July 30, 2013, 04:00:30 am »
Hi

Been away from EA since v7.x, and find some changes I don't understand in  v10.   Can I not resize an element (i.e. Component) to be short enough to 'just' fit the text?  No matter what I do, the height is forced to a minimum height.  Is it a preference?

General Board / Attribute (General Tab) - Shortcut Key
« on: June 08, 2008, 10:30:34 am »
Hi,

When creating multiple attributes for a class, it would be nice to bang in the names, and come back to the details later.

Is there a shortcut key to 'save this attribute and immediately create a new one'?  Hitting <Enter> will save but then leave you on this attribute.. you still need to hit the "New" Button.

I'm working from a 'whiteboard session' and I'm trying to be as efficient as I can...  :D

General Board / Custom MDA Transform - dependency, trace, realize
« on: May 01, 2008, 08:27:59 am »
Hi,

I'm about to write my first MDA transform, and I wonder which link I should use in mapping:
 • Design-time Java classes back to Analysis-time classes (from which they were derived)
 • Logical Persistence <entity> classes back to their Design-time Java classes (from which they were initially derived)
 • Physical Persistence <table> classes back to their <entity> classes
Yes, I know this is very waterfall-y, and yes we can skip the "Design-time Java" and "Logical Persistence" layers, but we're slowly moving from an Oracle Forms/OracleDB world into the OO & UML, world.

If I can prove the viability of MDA, then we won't be bound by legacy Data Administration naming standards and conventions.  Not that I mind this (as I started off doing a lot of Data Modeling), but I'd like to leave that behind and focus on OO for Analysis, separating out the relational aspects.

We've allowed Hibernate ORM into our shop, so ideally we'd leave the OO<->relational mapping here, but it'll probably take a few steps to get the organization thinking along these lines.

So... I'm leaning towards "trace" but when I tested out the built-in Transform templates, I noticed that none of them had links back to their source element.

Did I mess up somewhere with the Transform options?

TIA
Gary
