Suggestions and Requests / References Menu Suggestion
« on: April 01, 2005, 02:10:02 pm »
I find references ugly to use and the diverse element context tab
nastily nested (3 unnecessary clicks into the hierarchy!):

One can add requirements to elements simply by dragging them into
the element - wonderful! But: If I likewise want to add a use case
as a reference to the same element I need to click and click to get
that done - and to browse and access it:
I don't find it in the tabbed dialog - but somewhere else!

Why not make it simple: Instead of the Requirements tab in the
Property dialog, make it a general References dialog which is capable
to hold all kinds of references, Reqs and other beasts (the types of
which could by shown by text or better: icon within the ref listview).
(So: remove complexity in favour of usability and overview!)

Next, add a hot spot at the elements top right edge which pops up a
reference list: activation of an item will open that element.
So: one click to browse and hop!

Suggestions and Requests / Is there an issue with digram frames?
« on: December 02, 2004, 01:17:14 pm »
I drew a deployment diagram with 4 diagram frames, and the objects on the 4th did not appear in the diagram images for parts.
Copied the 4th part into a new diagram, rcreated anew, estartet EA, put non-printed objects to the fore ground..nothing helped.
Created a new project, drew the 4th part anew in there, and that worked!?!

What's on?

Suggestions and Requests / Template Pools
« on: November 21, 2004, 07:03:43 am »
I'd appreciate pools of documented templates for each of the most common languages.
I'm sure, many would like to participate sharing their templates and have them be dicussed and documented.

That way, best-practices libraries could be built up.

General Board / DSL, WWF, and ServiceFactory
« on: August 26, 2008, 12:37:37 am »
Hi all,

time by time I was asking Sparx Austria on a possible integration of DSL within EA, in particular, I'd love to be able to use my sequence diagrams to define a Windows Workflow, and I'd like to be able to use my Service logical diagrams to be recognized within the ServiceFactory DSL interface.

The answer I always got: "Well, yes, Sparx is on that, they already have a profile..."

Over 15 months, nothing seams to happen. So, what's going on?
Shall we launch an integration initiative, or how can we get things going?

General Board / Welldone & Pledggge for Non-Localization
« on: April 22, 2006, 12:21:55 pm »
Hello Sparx Team,

I feel, some words of honor are in place as I saw the "new" Whitepaper section; there is definitely a great passionate engagement for us to be able to keep up! I love how it goes: keep up!

One other thing: Does a localization of EA really do good?
With every idiom we'll get further off from unification; I mean, it's even difficult to unmistakeably, uniquely  to get the models across with UML 2. Won't it become even more difficult with different languages?

General Board / Howto Release Imported Xml Image file?
« on: January 16, 2006, 02:40:42 pm »
Hi all,

Perhaps I'm blind: I don't see any possibility to get rid of the imported images, but to violate the eap file directly:

Is there any other way?

Thanks for answer
Regards Hans

General Board / Again: How to model delegates in object diagrams?
« on: December 04, 2004, 03:40:20 pm »
Sadly, I didn't receive any answer on that.
And, in view of the property/field discussion in here, I did not expect that.
When I decided to use EA (and by this UML) this was although I knew of the
severe shortcomings of the narrow-minded Booch-IBM-Java-orientated conception
of UML 2.0.
My stimulus was and is that UML is a means for us to standardize and
Of course, I do know that delegates (callbacks) are out of scope (as by Booch)
as are properties, but that should not hinder EA to discuss and propose standards
and best practices for all that stuff beyond: We simply want to build more than
Lada motors!

To the topic: There are some CASE-tools which do supply delegate and property
items besides attributes and operations. That could be one solution. A more
conservative one would be to introduce stereotypes for delegates (and properties).
But then the problem is to the nature of a delegate: Is it an attribute?
And what about the subscriber? How do I model that?

I think, it is to us and Sparx to find the proper answers. Sparx might perhaps
devote a forum to these points and extract the wisdom into its own idioms.
But to sit away or ignore these problems simply doesn't count!

General Board / What is a .NET Library xml File?
« on: November 21, 2004, 02:30:51 pm »
From the import context menu I choose "import .Net xml", and that seems to validate according to some schema. I wonder which?

General Board / How to Model Callbacks correctly?
« on: November 21, 2004, 06:41:31 am »
I am mainly interested in modelling for C# and would like to create templates for emitting delegates and events.
This preliminates that I do have a well-defined UML model at hand. Now, how's it done?

Bugs and Issues / Build 832 - Horizontal swimlanes cannot be moved

Other than vertical swimlanes, horizontal ones cannot be moved.

Automation Interface, Add-Ins and Tools / Tagged values for packages
« on: February 25, 2009, 09:29:35 pm »

We create a automatically an UML model of all kind of sources. To make it possible to (re)load a (newer) version of the sources, all the objects in the sources have a unique id. I like to save this unique id in the EA model. Normally I do that in the tagged values, however I don't know how to add tagged values to packages with the automation interface.

Can somebody help me

Automation Interface, Add-Ins and Tools / Artifact documents
« on: October 30, 2006, 11:44:50 am »
I like to add an Artifact document to a package. I expect that I have to create a new Element of a specific type (what type?), but how cas I add RTF data to this element?

I know that the RTF data is in ZIP format, but I cannot find an automation example or is this not possible with the automation interface of EA?

I'm creating sequence diagrams with the EA automation interface. This works fine, however I like to change the width of the name of a message. I have discovered that EA reserves a width of 100px for this name by default . If the name is longer, you get several lines.

The consequences of several lines is that it overlaps the next message(s). If I export the model to XMI, I see that the 'UML:Message' has a tagged value 'privatedata5', which contains the width of the name ('CX=100'). If you change it, import the XMI, then the width of the label is changed.

I try to add this privatedata5 tagged value to the connector (= sequence message), however without any success. Does anyone knows if it is possible to change the width of this sequence message name.

Hi all,

Upon Xsd Import, the minOccurs and maxOccurs attributes on the sequence elemets is incorrectly set to 1..1 and on subsequent export hence deleted.
