Hello

I have the following exception when I try a basic XML/XSLT transformation (EA 16.0.5 trial version). I have attached the package XMI.
I have (almost) followed the procedure described in https://sparxsystems.com/enterprise_architect_user_guide/14.0/model_domains/model_an_xsl_transformation.html but created the XML file and XSLT file objects directly in EA.

Adding that, even though I enter the XSLT code via the EA GUI in the XSLT file object stored document, when I try to export that file object, the exported file is empty.

Thank you for your help.

Hello all,

I am looking for a freelance to develop import into EA a set of Excel spreadsheets with different level of structure complexities and create a class generalization tree (including attributes/tag values for some classes) and also export that structure into XML files given a well-defined structure.

Please email me via this forum with availibilities and hourly rate.
Time zone preferably Europe but not mandatory.

Tx

Suggestions and Requests / Structuration of the EA forum
« on: November 23, 2012, 12:47:54 am »
I find that the current EA forum contains a massive number of good information about the uses and misuses of the tool.

The current forum structure is not optimised as interesting threads are too quickly replaced by new topics.

Would it be possible to use a structure such as the one that phpbb is using:

General Board / Use Case and Requirement
« on: January 12, 2013, 03:48:10 am »
I have have a trouble choosing between the right connector and connection direction between a Use Case and a Requirement in a specific modelling style:

I create Use Cases and in the Scenario window, I enter a text that I want to be a Requirement shown on the Use Case diagram. What I am trying to model is that the requirement is derived from the Use Case; for example, in an ATM contect, I would create a Use Case "Identify bank customer" and I would write a scenario and in the course of the scenario, elicit a requirement such as "The ATM shall prompt the user for the card PIN".

But when it comes to showing the relationship between the Use Case to the Requirement, I don't know which type of Requirement relationship I should use and in which direction i should draw the relationship (either from the Use Case to the Requirement, or from the Requirement to the Use Case). The relationship and direction choices have a big impact of the type of information that is shown in the traceability window.

If you use SysML, you may want to use the "Trace" or "Refine" relationship. if you don't use SysML, you have only the choice between an Association and the Implements relationship.

As EA is allowing to trace a lot of relationship types, what is your advice and practice?

General Board / Package browser not showing all information
« on: November 13, 2012, 07:41:39 pm »
The current "intented behavior" of the Package Browser can lead to important dependencies to be overlooked.

- For example, in package A with an element Ea: if I reference an element Eb (defined in package B which is not in package A hierarchy) by creating a link to/from Ea, the current Package Browser do not show this dependency in the element list.

IMHO, this is very misleading, if you want, for example, to export for review all the elements and links contained in package A.

Anybody has the same worry?

General Board / How to  document reused elements?
« on: January 11, 2013, 03:35:48 am »
IMHO, the following problem is a very serious one for using EA in a multi-projects - multi-products context.

I will take a very very simple example:

Create a Package called "Reusable actors" and create within this package, actors and document them in the notes section.

Now create a package called "Product A", a Use Case diagram in it and create actors and Use Cases in this Use Case diagram but also "drag and drop" actors from the "Reusable actors" package.

Now document Package A with a basic Use Case RTF template.

ONLY the actors defined in "Product A" package are listed and documented  :'(  :'(  :'(
The "reusable" actors are totally ignored.

This example appies to any element that is defined outside the documented package.

Can anybody explain to me how can I work with EA having a reuse strategy in mind?

General Board / RTF document general sections
« on: January 04, 2013, 03:45:07 am »
Hello,

Traditionaly, requirements/design documents start with sections such as:

1. Scope
1.1 Identification
1.2 Intented use of the sub-system
1.3 Background
1.4 Document Overview
2. Applicable documents and definitions
2.1 Applicable and referenced documents
2.1.1 Applicable Documents
2.2 Definitions, acronyms and abbreviations
2.2.1 Definitions
2.2.2 Acronyms
2.2.3 Abbreviations

[ch8195]I want to be able to populate these sections using a RTF template.
No problem to create the section in the RTF template creation tool, but can you make the content specific to a given project. (My 2.2 section could be generated from the project glossary.)

Would you create "dummy" packages for each section with noteshosting the paragraph content?

Are there more elegant ways to do this?

Thanks

General Board / EA readonly along with EA corporate
« on: December 15, 2012, 05:59:28 am »
Anybody knows if, on a client computer, I can install EA Lite (read only) along with a Corporate floating version?

My scenario is:
I want to start Corporate EA and there are no free licenses, so I want at least browse the EA models while awaiting that a floating license to be released.

Sparx should implement EA lite in EA so the switch would be transparent to the user until a floating license is available.

Stupid?

General Board / Community document templates
« on: November 23, 2012, 12:42:39 am »
Hello,

Do you know if there is an area where the EA community might be sharing document templates?

Sparx provides good starting templates but I believe most of the EA users have developped advanced templates that maybe they can share.

General Board / Asked to save my changes. Why?
« on: November 23, 2012, 12:40:04 am »
Hello,

Sometimes, I open a diagram or an object and even I don't make any change (not moving objects in a diagram nor changing properties of an objec), EA tells me that they are unsaved changes when I clsose the diagram or use the cancel button on the object properties.

Do you know why?

General Board / Stereotyping SysML stererotype
« on: November 16, 2012, 03:27:36 am »
hello,

I am trying without success to stereotype a SysML Use Case stereotype.

In the profile diagram, I am creating a steterotype "SysML1.2::UseCase" and a stereotype "MyUseCase" which specialize the SysML stereotype.

This does not work. I have tried also "SysML::UseCase" and "UML4SysML::UseCase" as described in the SysML specification document.

What am I doing wrong?

General Board / Too many opened windows
« on: November 15, 2012, 09:31:27 pm »
Hi all,

When you navigate in an EA model, you end up with a large of windows opened and listed in the tab window  :(

In Windows or a web browser, you can control the number of opened windows and CTRL-click to open a folder in a new window or tab only if you wish.

it would nice that we could have a navigation that open (on-demand) the target diagram as a replacement for the current window.  :)

Maybe there is already something?

General Board / Indirect traceability made more visible
« on: August 23, 2010, 06:20:28 pm »
Hi all,

I did quite extensive searches in the EA documentation but I didn't find any solution to my problem:

Imagine that I have a High-level user requirement (HLUR) which is realised by a Use Case (UC1), which is itself implemented by a Use Case (UC2). The dependency can be as deep as needed.

Is it possible to know directly that if I change HLUR, I might have to change UC2?

I know that the hierarchy window is giving this information the user has to open each dependent object until he finds the impact object he is interested in.

I have also checked the reports (implementation and dependency) but they didn't contain what I am looking for.

Thanks for your help

General Board / UML Elements and Linked Documents
« on: June 17, 2010, 11:01:27 pm »
Hi,
I like to use Linked Documents for example to propose a textual representation of a Use Case, using a Use Case template such as the Cockburn's one.

I then drag and drop Actors but also Classes, Requirements in the Linked Document or I may also create UML elements from within the Linked Document.

My question to the forum is:
in EA, how do you see the fact for example that a "Use Case" is  linked (via a "Linked Document") with the Actor/Class or Requirement that I have dragged and dropped?

Tx
