General Board / Extending ArchiMate Elements (Attributes and Shapescript)

Hello all,

I'm in the need to capture data for ArchiMate elements (e.g. Application Component: Security Rating, ...) and hence created a custom non-UML profile (generalization from ArchiMate stereotype, extension from meta class) - no MDG (yet).
Coloring was also successful (coloring the stereotype).
As I want to adhere to the naming layed out in Gerben Wierda's famous Mastering ArchiMate, I also want to show a custom name on the shapescipt.
Idea:
- use standard name attribute
- add "group" attribute
- show "
[<group>]
<name>
(<metatype>)
" on elements in diagrams.

Question would be now if I have to create a completely new shapescript (based on the one in Geerts library on github) or can overwrite only certain parts of the shapescript.
To my current knowledge I think, I have to go the first solution.

Bugs and Issues / Error Message when opening a Cloud Connection

Hello all,

we have set up a recent Enterprise Architect 15.2.1559 on a desktop PC to access a ProCloud repository.
After filling in the fields for the cloud connection in the dialog we get a popup with the following message:

Pro Cloud Server: Unable to connect to service
Pro Cloud Server: Die Syntax für den Dateinamen, Verzeichnisnamen oder die Datenträgerbezeichnung ist falsch.
(English translation: Pro Cloud Server: The syntax for filename, folder name or disk name is wrong.)

I have never seen this message and anything we do doesn't solve the issue.

What works:
- We can successfully access the URL of the repository with a browser from the desktop PC.
- This repository could be successfully accessed by already installed EAs on several laptops in the company.
- Creating a local repository on the desktop PC works.

I'm out of ideas ..

Bugs and Issues / Re: Black Boxes instead of Tooltip

Hello,

From memory when looking into similar reports, it can happen if Direct2D is disabled on your system.

If someone happens to remember how to turn then off I'd be grateful for any insight.

Start > Desktop > Preferences > Window Behavior > Application Tooltips.

Has the options 'As Popup', 'In Status Bar', 'Disabled'.

Thanks for the hint! "In Status Bar" works for me.

Sometimes Tooltips are helpful for understanding the buttons (especially in areas that I'm that familiar with ).

Hello Geert,

I tried your approach, but the information I'm getting from those attributes are:
- UML Class diagram: EA.diagram.Type = Logical (shown in properties GUI: Class)
- UML Class: EA.element.Type = Class (that's equivalent to what is shown in the GUI under properties for attribute Type.)

EA.diagram.Type for ... (t_diagramtypes)
- UML Class: Logical
- BPMN: Analysis
- ArchiMate: Logical

Does anyone knows where the data is stored/hidden that EA uses to show in the properties for a diagram as Type the value Class?
Based on my research it can't be in EA.diagram.Type

Only for MDG-diagrams and elements you can have a clear detection what type of diagram/element a diagram/element is.
For diagram use EA.diagram.MetaType or EA.diagram.StyleEx with searching for MDGDgm=..;.
For elements use EA.element.FQStereotype.

For anything "standard", e.g. UML, this is not that easy/clear as most attributes are empty.
For diagram:
EA.diagram.MetaType = <empty>
EA.diagram.StyleEx has MDGDgm=; (empty)

For element:
EA.element.Type = Class
Rest is all empty


Any ideas?

Hello all,

I have difficulties to identify if a diagram or element is from UML.
With BPMN or ArchiMate I can use the element.FQStereoType or diagram.StyleEx (looking for MDGDgm=xxx;).
But in case of UML all those attributes are empty.

Any idea on how I can identify those UML diagrams and elements?

Hello DirkJan,

we found the cause for this issue:
You have to enter the database connection string with the server in IP instead of FQDN.
If you use FQDN, the test shows it is ok, but it is not saved/usable.

Changing from FQDN to IP fixed the SSL issue

I will try this.

My last observation:
- CPU constantly at 17-18%
- RAM consumption climbs slowly (up to 1.560 MB)
- Windows kills the process due to not being reactive.

Automation Interface, Add-Ins and Tools / Reproducible Crashes with Scrips in 15.2

Hello,

I can reproduce crashes with my scripts in 15.2.

Environment:
- EA: 15.2
- EA-Matic
- Scripts in VBScript

The scripts are triggered on events to populate data at elements or style diagram objects.
If I start EA fresh and start modeling, then after adding some elements/diagram objects it show an error message "Out of memory" and after a few more additions it crashes without further notice.

Is there a somewhere a log? Be it from EA or Windows?
Any ideas on how to narrow this down?

ok, that I haven't tried. EA-Matic is then providing the events as they are from Enterprise Architect - understood.
I used the information from github code.

Hello together,

I'm trying to use the EA-Matic to handle events when a new diagram object is created.
Unfortunately I do get an error when reading the object ID like this:
(I have looked up the correct parameter name on github)

function EA_OnPostNewDiagramObject(Info)
   dim diagramObjectID
   set diagramObjectID = Info.get("ObjectID")
end function

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong here?
Can someone point me to the correct attribute name?
