Suggestions and Requests / Re: multi select in project view
« on: April 07, 2004, 11:15:08 am »
On the contrary from my point of view, I'd be significantly interested in seeing this improvement.  I miss the multi-select ability quite frequently.  Apparently, not enough to complain about it yet, but nonetheless...

Suggestions and Requests / Re: SysML
« on: June 02, 2004, 11:44:32 am »
Jose, it sounds like SysML is an extension of standard UML 2.0.  There is a protocol built into UML for its own extension, via profiles.  This is, for example, how EA supports the EP Business Modeling extensions.

So, in actuality, the support of extensions is already built into EA.  The question, I suppose, is who is going to develop the SysML profile.

Suggestions and Requests / Re: Using Visual Source Safe and EA

Jeff, I noticed a day or two ago that there's a new product/enhancement being developed to more closely link EA and Visual Studio .Net.  If you're a registered EA user, check out the link for registered users from the EA home page, and locate the announcement for the MDG (model driven generator) link for Visual Studio .Net.

I browsed the feature set and downloaded the beta myself, but I haven't loaded it and tried it out yet.  Looks like it may at least partially resolve your (reasonable) issues in using EA with VS .Net.

There's no pricing or licensing information available, but assuming that the MDG Link does what I think I understand from reading the feature set, I'll seriously consider investing in it.  I'm already running Borland's Together for VS .Net and it's pretty nice for the design model/code cycle.  It just isn't as comprehensive as EA, which would be more to my liking.

Suggestions and Requests / Discussion Link in Menubar
« on: April 29, 2004, 09:03:27 am »
Is anyone besides me seeing what appears to be a jumbled mess where the "Discussion Forum" gif file is in the Web site's menu bar?

I can download the gif file and view it separately and it looks fine.  It's just not being rendered properly when I browse the site.  All other menubar items appear fine, and the Discusion Forum link works fine - it takes me to the forums.

Suggestions and Requests / Re: Default destructor visibility

But then, of course, that last post put me over 50, so now it says "Junior Member" - Doh!  I just can't get anything right today.

Javier, thx for pointing out that I should report it as a bug.  I guess that's why it still says "Newbie" next to my logon     :-[

Suggestions and Requests / Default destructor visibility
« on: March 15, 2004, 04:24:13 pm »
Release 720, Local Options|Object Lifetimes.  The last item under the Destructor section of the dialog reads "Default copy constructor visibility:".

Is it the case that this is suposed to read "Default destructor visibility:" instead?  Appears this could be a copy/paste error from the above item, Copy Constructor.

Suggestions and Requests / Re: Reverse Engineering to Sequence Diagram

Would be very nice, however, it would seem to me that determining dynamic behavior from a codebase must require a high degree of intelligence in the modeling software.  From my guess, I would expect it to be a large amount of work to implement that kind of functionality.

Translation: I'd like to see that too, but I'm not holding my breath just yet.

Using build 720, I just found that when updating the Local Options|Code Editors settings, when I change the Default Database value, it wipes out anything I might have already populated for the paths to my code editors.

Workaround is to select the Default Database field first, then go back and enter the code editors.

Seems like a minor new bug.

Oops, sorry, this is using build 720...

Suggestions and Requests / Error adding Test Type
« on: March 15, 2004, 03:43:45 pm »
When adding a Test Type, and entering values only for the Test Type, Description and Weight fields (no Note), receive an error dialog "DAO.database [3315], Field 't_testtypes.Notes' can't be a zero-length string.".

The resolution is obvious to me, but this is different behavior than entering other types w/o a Note, such as the Roles types.

Suggestions and Requests / Sorted "Roles" List on Project Authors D
« on: March 15, 2004, 03:15:47 pm »
Minor nit...

On the Project Authors dialog, selecting the Roles pick list displays an unsorted version of the Roles.  However, when viewing this information on the Project Roles dialog, the Roles are presented in a nice, sorted grid.

Is it possible to change the sort order (or enforce one) on the Project Authors|Roles pick list also.

Suggestions and Requests / Re: Design Patterns in Base Product?

wmac, I just checked the link that I used in my earlier post - a couple of msgs above - and still can get to the file.  There's a link to a ZIP file at the bottom-rightmost portion of the screen.  Believe it's labeled

Actually, I'm just another user of the EA product.  But the forums seem to be read frequently by the Sparx guys.  I might suggest giving a more specific example of the integration that would be useful for you.  Like, for example, would you expect to see the GoF patterns available in a menubar item, or on the right-click menu, etc.

Not that you asked, but since you're eval'ing the product, I'd have to recommend it as a pretty decent option at its price point.  I don't know of any other product that covers as much breadth in the same class, and have a number of my folks working on it.
