Suggestions and Requests / Automation interface for diagram filters

Hi,

I'm building my own document generator and would like to use diagram filters in order to have the same diagram in the document but with different filters.

I would like an interface where we can set the diagram filters to use.

It doesn't have to have an interface for defining the filters. That can be done manually.

The trick with the title block could work for us also.

Geert, your comment about stereotypes seems fair but as far as I understand it's possible to apply a stereotype on a diagram. In fact we are using that.

Hi,

I have not been able to use the filters for the purpose I need layers for; in order to reuse a common design between different products based on this common design.

More specific:
* I want to have one diagram describing the common part for many products.
* The diagram above shuold be the "background" for doing several other diagrams, each for one product, with small additions in each of them.

How to do this? Can filters be used? (Today we export the common diagram as WMF file and import it as image and use a boundary symbol with the image in each product specific diagram as background).

Too complicate it even more I want to do this in many levels...

Hi,

I want the same kind of notes field in the parameters dialog as for other dialogs, for instance the operations. Today it's not possible to do bullet lists and text formatting.

Suggestions and Requests / Project Integrity Check

Hi,

It's good to be able to check the project but I'm not very happy about running the recover without knowing the elements that will be fixed. Is it possible to find out or otherwise I suggest a "find element in project browser" for each line in the dialog.

Hi,

I really looked forward to dig into the workflow script funtionality but I maybe I have missed something obvious (there are not much examples...) because I cannot even do the most simply thing:
Prevent users not belong to a group to edit an element/diagram at all! Not even lock it.

Can this be done? If not I really think it should be added. (You can control if an user can update version/phase etc. but that's minor features from our perspective.)

This is really sad because we need it and we have reqeusted the feature and I think Sparx has done a good approach to it by introducing the scripting engine.

Hi Paolo,

We're using <Context Menu>|Embedded Elements|Show Realized interfaces. (We have separate diagrams showing what interfaces that are realized by what components.)

My question is why Sparxs has made a difference in the UI between these two approaches. What's the difference from an UML perspective someone might be able to explain...

Hi,

We're using the "realized" interface functionality on components in order to visualize dependecies between components and interface. But for some reason these interface are not possible to move around. They are fixed on the left side of the component. Any reason? We want to place them freely.

Hi!

We're a scaling up the usage of the EA tool to ~50 floating licenses and people are starting to be bit annoyed that elements are unnecessary locked. We ask for:
* Possibility to have an extra checkbox "Include child elements" in the lock dialog which means that only the package itself will be locked and not the dialogs and elements below. (Today the include child will work for packages and that's fine)

* Make it possible to lock elements based on multiple selected items in the project browser. Today the only command is deleted!

Thanks for you answer.

We have not have the history that you have but started with the central repository with required locks directly and that has worked fairly well at least from a stability point of view.

Our issue is that we have a very distributed organization in Europe/Asia (in total ~8 sites with ~450 potential users). In order to get the remote sites to work we have a Citrix server for that purpose (used also for Linux users). This solution is not a responsive (in terms of graphical user experience) as running EA natively and we're are evaluating different approach to avoid this.

Besides the alternatives that you mention we have stated with an approach that we use the central repository we have to today but allow people to create a snapshot (project transfer to EAP file) after the have locked the node tree they want to edit. Then they can continue to work locally and when ready they do an XMI export from the EAP file and after that an XMI import into the central repository. This way we allowe local editing but avoid the merge problem.

Do you see any problems with such approach? (Except the reference data..)

We do the project transfer using the automation interface. Look at ProjectTransfer in the project interface. (Was introduced in version 9)

q. Please elaborate because we have a lot of users asking why we don't use version control integration.
