General Board / Re: Is it possible to disable cloud access?
« on: November 06, 2018, 07:55:18 am »
My security team will not let us purchase or install additional licenses of EA until we can find a way to disable cloud access. They're worried, I'm assuming, about one of the engineers saving a model outside of the corporate firewalls. We can't really rely on network blocking access because there's nothing stopping an engineer from running EA on a laptop from a local Starbucks.

So presumably you also need to disable export to XMI and email on those engineers' PCs too. :-)

Bugs and Issues / Re: Can't order Responsibilities
« on: November 05, 2018, 09:17:14 am »
Element Responsibilities (aka - Internal Requirements) can't be ordered.  The ONLY order available is alphabetic.

Please rectify.

Every collection in EA should be able to be ordered.

This is a user forum.  I suggest you log a formal feature request.

General Board / Re: When will we be able to post to ProCloud forum ?

Well there was going to be a grand opening ceremony but Daryl Braithwaite was fully booked out, so it'll just have to be me saying...

What?  No Jame Reyne?

General Board / Re: Connector thickness
« on: November 02, 2018, 07:56:24 am »
This seems to work ok when I make the connection between elements on the same diagram, but when I drag those same elements onto a different diagram, the connector retracts to 1 point.

Is that different diagram created with your MDG?

Automation Interface, Add-Ins and Tools / Re: Problem building Add-In
« on: November 01, 2018, 12:10:56 pm »
That's what Sparx have suggested.  However, the registration occurs during installation and (presumably) points to the dll in the EA folder.  So why does one file work and the other not?  (<caveat>By NO means a dll expert</caveat>)

I'm not sure why you'd do a full reinstall then.  The logical thing to do is to re-register that one dll (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/administration/windows-commands/regsvr32) and see if anything changes.

Agreed, it is fishy not to have that property, but that doesn't solve the basic question of what's the difference between the two files?  One works, one doesn't - regardless of where the reference is.  I'm going to download 1427 again and re-install and see if that changes anything.  I've already re-installed from my current download - to no avail.

Is it a problem with the DLL registration?

General Board / Re: Security groups and packages

I would like my business users (via business user groups) to update assets of the business architecture but not of the other architecture domain (application, data, ). Same thing for user responsible for the other Architecture domain.

It's a model, not a file system.  There are connections between your levels.  Denying access to another level would remove the ability for a user to safely edit a connected element.

General Board / Re: Change of stereotype to "Functional"
« on: November 01, 2018, 07:37:20 am »
So I guess the workaround for your problem is to delete the "functional" requirement type and add a "funktional" or "functionally" or another variation if you still need that one but don't like it to be the default.

Or accept that the majority of requirements are functional and leave it alone, as we know when you start fooling around with the Pareto Principal the resulting mess is bigger than the original problem.

General Board / Re: Can EA Really Do Data Modelling
« on: November 01, 2018, 07:32:36 am »
I really need honest responses. Cheers.

It actually depends on who you have doing it.  People are extremely bigoted about tools, and the data modelling space seems to be an area where people are extremely bigoted.

Personally I've found all EA's capabilities in the data space useful.

Actually that's why (see my first post) I used my own flavor in a MDG. From my POV those requirement elements from EA should just be removed.

I don't think it should be removed.  I think there are a bunch of the smaller technologies/MDGs that should be "crowd sourced" or have community enhancements harvested.

Plus if you moved these and the help files to %appdata% rather than %programfiles% you wouldn't lock in problems for users.

This isn't a new issue. I've seen it reported/discussed/etc many times over the years. But in my opinion it's not wrong.

I would say that EA's implementation of a Requirement is that it has a 1..* relationship to Requirement Type.

As a result, any requirement without a requirement type is incomplete. There are many ways to manage this, and none of them are going to satisfy everyone.

I don't have an issue with the way EA handles requirements.  I have an issue more with the fact that the methodology behind requirements management is ad hoc and doesn't match any industry norms.  I doubt I'm the only one who has had to add MOSCOW scoring to requirements more than once to keep BAs happy.

But why am I getting 1622x1138?  From vague memory, we were using HP printers then and that's where we got the 1600x1100 from (other printers gave different values).  That's why I think it may be driver specific.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/drivers/print/standard-options shows you the standard form sizes most printer driver definitions will contain.  An individual driver can have custom forms.

This is a massive environment with over a thousand tables. There can be a dozen projects active at once that all have their own releases and changes hitting the same data model.

Does PowerDesigner allow you to manage model changes by project and then iteratively 'check in' those changes? I've never used PD before, and it seems to have a bit of a learning curve.

Having had to use PowerDesigner all I can say is good luck :-)

General Board / Re: Logical Data Modelling in SPARX

I have no problem creating conceptual and logical models in UML.  I suspect you want the Link to Element feature of associations for creating relationships between attributes.  But it isn't clunky so maybe not.
