General Board / Re: Clear recent
« on: December 17, 2007, 06:36:49 am »
I think I saw this as a FAQ somewhere - from documentation/help:

"Remove Recent Projects"
To remove a project link from the Recent list on the Start Page, follow the steps below:

1. Select File | Open Project from the menu bar or press [Ctrl]+
  • . The Open Project dialog displays.

    2. In the Recent Projects panel click on the project to remove.

    3. Click on the Remove Selection from List button.

Note: Removing the link to a model from the Start Page only removes the link to the model and does not remove the .EAP file from the file system.

Left clicking on "More tools..." under "Toolbox" should be what you want.

Use View->Visual Layouts->Default to end up with the Toolbox on the left of the screen.

An approach recommended in "Use Case Driven Object Modeling with UML" is to use the <<precedes>> and <<invokes>> stereotypes rather than <<includes>> and <<extends>>. Note that EA supports these stereotypes by default.

Actually I think what I was after is View->Visual Layouts->Default Layout.

There is view selection via View->Visual Layouts->Custom Layout. This allows the user to customize 5 working screen layouts.

General Board / Initial Start Page?
« on: December 11, 2007, 12:16:24 am »
When starting up EA for the first time one is presented with the initial Start Page. Is there a simple way to switch the GUI back to that initial configuration?

The reason I ask is that new users can frequently mess up the interface (sometimes just accidentally undocking/redocking dialogs). It would be nice just to provide a key sequence to reset the UI back to the default Start Page.

I'm working my way through "Use Case Driven Object Modeling With UML" (Rosenberg/Stephens). I think it is quite an accessible book. It describes the production of a model from start to finish. I think it may be quite useful for a beginner as it limits itself to a subset of UML - i.e. 4 diagrams. The book is related to the ICONIX methodology. You can read reviews on Amazon. I did get the company to pay for a copy and do prefer hardbacks for reference material.

General Board / Re: Corporate Floating License question
« on: March 27, 2007, 08:31:21 am »
There is no real "key server" it is file based.

Basically the recommendation is that you have one license file for laptop users that has no expiry time and another license file for networked PCs.

I just set up our key store.

All you need do is read the manual!  :P

It suggests setting up two keystores: one for laptop users + another for networked users.

The only difference being is that the laptop users get a key that is effectively node locked whereas the networked users are still floating keys.

General Board / Maximise diagram?
« on: February 27, 2007, 10:46:53 am »
A neat feature that I like in Eclipse and would like to see in EA is the ability to "maximise" the current diagram. I couldn't see an obvious way of doing this in EA? It may already be present.

In Eclipse I can maximise the current set of source files just by clicking on the "maximise" button. Obviously the "maximise" button becomes "restore" when in the maximised state.

General Board / Distant teams?
« on: September 21, 2006, 02:20:49 am »
We are looking to switch to EA from Rose for our distributed team.

One concern is related to using a shared copy of EA across the internet - i.e. one project may have members in distant locations that need to share the same DB (typically over a slowish network).

Is it possible to have local copies of the EA DB that can be later merged into the "master" copy?

Many thanks in advance for any responses.

General Board / Java import?
« on: September 22, 2006, 08:50:49 am »
When I imported a Java project I couldn't appear to find the @param values for the parameters? Where should I be looking?

I assume that the fields I'm after would also be used to produce the @param values going from model to source?

Many thanks in advance for any responses.

General Board / Code format?
« on: September 20, 2006, 03:42:54 am »
If one uses the inbuilt editor or even the code generation facility is it possible to alter the format of edited/generated code?

Or is it up to the user to do this in an external editor/environment?

Bugs and Issues / Re: BUG: Element Usage
« on: December 12, 2007, 01:02:28 am »
It seems that resizeable dialogs in EA do NOT remember their user sized preference. I.e. if one opens, resizes, closes and then reopens the dialog then the initial default size is used.

Although this is in the spirit of the EAUI experience it is not in agreement with the applications I'm used to (Outlook/UltraEdit for instance).

I suspect that the EA code base is now .NET based from it's look and feel.
This means that it should simply involve ticking the "allow resize" box for the dialog in question.

Bugs and Issues / BUG: Element Usage
« on: December 11, 2007, 12:08:50 am »
The Element Usage dialog is not resizeable. What is the point of having resizeable columns if one can't adjust the size of the window? This also applies to the vertical scroll bar too.

Please ensure that this particular dialog (along with all such similar dialogs) may be resized by the user. Of course it would be useful if the user selected size is remembered for subsequent uses of the dialog.
