General Board / How to report trace relationships for state transitions?
« on: November 04, 2017, 03:23:48 am »
I have a state transition from State1 to State2 (Call it Transition1). I attach a trace from Transition1 to Artifact1. How do I generate a report or an SQL query that lists that trace relationship? (I know how to do it when I trace from a State element, but not from a state transition).

I've seen a few posts on this topic but no answers, so I thought I'd take my chances.

When I use {Diagram.DiagramImg} to put an image into generated documentation, the image is smaller than I'd like (it's legible, but I'd like the diagram to be bigger. Is there a way to set the size?

General Board / Figure numbers in captions in generate documents?

I've searched for a way to do this but haven't found anything.

How do I add Figure numbers and captions in generated documentation?

General Board / Document templates for methods with parameter notes
« on: July 18, 2017, 05:46:51 am »
Any insights on how to create a template that generates documentation for a method that looks like the strcat sample below? Specifically, I want to know how to put the parameter types and names into the function signature and put a list of the parameters and their associated notes below the signature.

Thanks in advance for assistance

char * strcat ( char * destination, const char * source );

Pointer to the destination array, which should contain a C string, and be large enough to contain the concatenated resulting string.
C string to be appended. This should not overlap destination.

I like the speed with which I can create relationships using the relationship matrix, until I try creating trace relationships. Creating those relationships with the matrix requires hand-editing every one of the dependency links afterward to add the "trace" stereotype.

Please add a "stereotype" entry box to the Relationship Matrix screen.

Suggestions and Requests / Lining up labels, not their elements
« on: August 21, 2007, 09:20:34 am »
Please provide a way to select several elements (say three interfaces or three ports) and automatically line up the labels for the elements. I'm looking for a quick way to tidy up drawings. So far, I have to select and manually resize or move each label, which is tedious on a complex drawing.

It would be nice to have an assumptions element, used to track project assumptions.

General Board / Show multiplicity of components on diagram?
« on: October 30, 2007, 03:56:23 pm »
Is there a simple way to show multiplicity of components on component diagrams? I'd like to make it clear when a component symbol represents multiple instances of the component.

Maybe I'm overlooking something, but I haven't found a way to do it.

General Board / Sharing model with version 6.5 and 7
« on: August 14, 2007, 08:43:13 am »
If I start using version 7 of EA on a shared-model that the rest of the team is using 6.5 with, are there going to be compatibility issues (I won't enable auditing, which I know converts the database)?

General Board / Resizing ports
« on: August 20, 2007, 08:55:40 am »
Say I have a data port on a component and three interfaces are connected to the port. EA sizes the port so it is long enough to attach the interfaces, but no longer. I want the port element to be longer so the interfaces are farther apart. I can't find a way to resize the port; all I can do is move it (even though it exhibits the little resize-boxes selected).

Is there a way to resize the port rectangle?

General Board / Who uses EA for requirements management?
« on: May 18, 2007, 08:54:56 am »
Has anyone used EA to manage requirements on a project that has  several hundred requirements and several analysts? How well does the process work? I'm a fan of UML and EA, but I'm concerned that there is not strong enough support for trace matrices and data entry for it to be an advantageous tool for collecting and managing requirements (especially when some of the users won't have UML knowledge.)

BTW, we're working toward a CMMI ( level 3 in our organization.

I do like the idea of being able to relate requirements to the development phase of a project, which EA can do very well.

Thanks for any info, including lessons learned...

General Board / Assemblies and Interfaces - Can they be related?
« on: July 02, 2007, 09:29:20 am »
EA Version 6.5

I know how to create an interface and call it, say "Interface1". I can also create an exposed interface and give it the type "Interface1". I even know how to create an assembly (the neat ball/socket connector that shows how two components connect through interfaces).

What I can't figure out is how to create an assembly and give it the type "Interface1" so that it relates to an interface I defined in my model. All I know how to do is give the assembly a link name of "Interface1", which is not the same thing and does not tie the assembly to the interface I have defined.

How do I bond assemblies with interface definitions so they are tied together in the model?

General Board / EA's discussion forum - adding links
« on: June 19, 2007, 12:45:01 pm »
I tried EA's discussion forum (control-alt-U brings it up) feature. It has a tantalizing subscreen and a help message that  states one can "link EA elements to the discussion", but I can't figure out how to do that. I've dragged, dropped, and clicked to no avail. What's the secret?

EA version 6.5, Win XP.

General Board / "Link tab" for requirements
« on: June 15, 2007, 02:24:34 pm »
When I look at properties for a use case, it has a "link" tab. I can see the link to an external requirement.

When I look at the properties for that requirement, it does not have a "link" tab and I can't find any indication that it is referenced by a use case.

Is there a way to do that?
