PCS General Board / Prolaborate 4.0

So heard in the webinar that Prolaborate V4.0 is totally re-engineered which raised the question about how would upgrade from a previous version. We are just starting a project to implement Prolaborate on premises so begs the question is it compatible or do we have to create a new DB and install on a new server then migrate the settings etc?

General Board / Cyber Security - Macro Signing

With the recent cyber security attacks our good security folk are about to enforce a policy that ensures no macros can run unless signed. We use a mix of VBScript, JScript and JavaScript Macros in Sparx EA and was wondering if anyone has any experiences to share in this space. Microsoft provide instructions on signing macros in MS office but not sure how this new policy will affect Macros in Sparx EA. I imagine the VBScript and JScript are likely to stop working not sure about the Mozilla Spidermonkey 63 engine. Did a quick search about signing macros in Sparx EA but nothing useful came out of the results. Sent in a support request to Sparx Systems just now but thought I'd reach out and see if anyone has anything to share on the topic.

Automation Interface, Add-Ins and Tools / Custom MDG _UCRect appears not to work

I have an MDG with stereotype extending Activity and I want it to not display in rectangle notation so I came across _UCRect special attribute. Great just the thing I thought set it to 0 and should be good.

_UCRect
(Only applicable to element types that have a distinct rectangle notation, or to elements that have Shape Scripts that evaluate the 'rectanglenotation' property, which can include element types that do not normally have rectangle notation.)
If set to 1, initially displays the element in rectangle notation. If set to 0, initially displays the element in standard notation.

Unfortunately I've found it doesn't appear to work in V15.2 Build 1559 for me.
Anyone else managed to get it to work?

General Board / Export/Import Diagram Themes?

I need to move some diagram themes from one model to another but can't see a way to do it. Doesn't appear to be in data transfer. Is it possible?

General Board / Model Metrics - where are they now?

A few years back there used to be a place in Sparx EA where you could get metrics like the number of diagrams and objects etc in a model. I was asked the other day for the numbers in our model and for the life of me I can't find those in V15.2 any more. Has this feature been removed or is it hidden in such a place I can't find it any more?

PCS General Board / Importing part of model into Prolaborate

We are giving Prolaborate a trial run for a couple of weeks and the pProlaborate folk have been kind enough to set it up in AWS for us. Initially they loaded up our sample model that included a process framework and a couple of business processes mapped in BPMN. After a while we decided we wanted to import a few more parts from our enterprise model such as applications components, roadmaps etc. So we exported another portion of our model to xml, about 28MB. When we attempted to XML import it started off fine and imported some elements but part way through we got a 403 error from ProCloud Server saying "Transmission error communicating with server. Http Status code: 403 Forbidden". Thought it might have been a glitch so tried it three times but got same result.

Has anyone else experienced that error and if so what did you do to resolve it.

The prolaborate guys suggest using Sparx EA Streaming service which is basically Sparx EA as SaaS and running within  a browser.

Bugs and Issues / V15.2 Build 1557 - Use Case Scenarios text box too small with 4K screen

Just been giving Build 1557 a bit of a spin with 4K screen with size of text set at 300% (recommended).
Noticed that the size of the text box for use case scenarios has been reduced to 1.5 lines which isn't really usable. A similar thing with structured scenarios with only about 10% of a line so can't read the structured scenarios.
Anyone else experiencing that or is it just me.
If I set the resolution to 1920x1080 the Use Case Scenario text box is about 5 lines and the structured scenarios are readable again.

General Board / Missing UML Core diagrams

So I've installed 15.2 Build 1555 a little while ago and came to create a use case but can't see the core UML diagram types anymore. The only Use Case diagram I can see is GRA Use Case. I can't see class diagrams, state diagrams etc. Checked that all the MDG Technologies were enabled. Anyone else getting this problem? Don't recall seeing the problem when I first installed a couple of weeks ago.


Tried uninstalling V15.2 and going back to V15.1 but get same problem of lots of diagram type including UML Core not appearing in the options to create diagrams any more. Then I got to thinking I had a 20H2 update on windows the other day so beginning to suspect that the latest windows update is cause the problem. Anyone else out there had an upgrade with Windows 10 to 20H2 and experiencing the same missing diagrams?

Bugs and Issues / Azure Icons print with black background

I've raised this with Sparx Support. Just letting you know there seems to be an issue with any Azure icon that has a transparent background when printing. It comes out with a black background so differs in appearance to what is shown on the screen.
Makes the printed diagram look a pretty ugly.

General Board / Sparx EA Build 1527 not announced

I note that build 1527 was released on 28th Feb 2020 yet it wasn't announced in latest news. I would have missed it if I didn't need to download an copy of the latest V15.1 setup file.
Anyone else miss it?

Automation Interface, Add-Ins and Tools / Enterprise Information Model MDG - How do you use it?

I noticed there is an MDG called Enterprise Information Models in V15 Sparx EA and its based on the work by David C. Hay. It is describes as such

This technology provides model templates for modeling the information of an Enterprise based on the work of David C. Hay.

Trouble is as much as I've tried I can't find out how to use it. I've gone through all the wizards, diagrams etc and done various searches on the help.
I've even looked at the XML file defining it which has the following code in it.

However I haven't been able to see these in the model patterns/wizard etc.
Any ideas how to users can create these model templates?

Bugs and Issues / Printer Problems with V15 Build 1507

Anyone else having problems printing diagrams with V15?
I have some A3 Poster size diagrams that print fine with V14.1 but don't print in V15.
This is a show stopper for us moving to V15.

I've created some diagram themes that reflect the corporate colours and want to share them with other users who access the same repository. I initially thought they would be saved in the repository (SQL Server) but it appears not as other users can't see them. How would I share my diagram themes with others?

Automation Interface, Add-Ins and Tools / EA V15 RC 1505 - Can't edit shapescript editor

Has anyone tried access the shape script editor in V15 RC 1505. I've got a custom MDG where I created some some stereotypes with shapescripts stored in the stereotype's initial value of _image attribute. In previous versions of Sparx EA there used to be a ellipse button (...) which could be clicked and the shapescript editor would pop up. Can't see it any more anywhere thus can't seem to edit shape scripts any more.
Am I missing something?

PCS General Board / Tagged Values - Can't edit from web EA?

Whilst running some rudimentary tests we've discovered that in our Cloud Repository we don't appear to have the ability to edit tagged values from Web EA. Is that a feature not presently in Web EA or is it something we need to configure.
We can edit notes.
