General Board / "UML Process " board established
« on: December 11, 2002, 03:40:01 am »
Hi,

We have established an additional forum board as requested. It is currently named "UML Process", only as an indicative name - this can be changed by request at a future time, let me know.

We will move the relevant thread(s) to the new board as soon as possible.

Cheers,
Geoff Sparks

General Board / Re: Information about Sparx Systems
« on: December 10, 2002, 05:50:36 am »
Hi all,

I'll endeavour to get something posted in the "About Sparx" section that is a bit more informative in the next day or two.

Many thanks to all those who have offered support on this thread - much appreciated.

We have indeed experienced excellent growth and market acceptance over the last two years - and with a rapidly expanding user base and continuing good feedback on EA's capabilities and performance it should not be too difficult a task.

Thanks again for the feedback, Ill post again on this thread when the information is available.

General Board / Re: DAO Error - EA Build 585
« on: December 09, 2002, 06:29:40 am »
Hi,

Thanks for the note. This was caused by some changes to the way stereotypes were handled in build 585 ... and inadvertently caused a problem in a few element types (the stereotype list would not load correctly).

We have posted an update (build 586) which corrects the problem., and is available for download now.

Hi,

The next build of EA will contain a fix for this - use cases will appear in the stereotype drop list, and use cases will also pick up the classifier base class.

The next build will be 585 and it should be released in a day or two.

Hi,

If you can send me a zipped up copy of the XMI, I will track down the problem and correct any errors as soon as possible.

You can email me at:

Hi,

I have done some research and have the following suggestion.

In the ODBC configuration dialog for Windows/MySQL ODBC 3.51, there is an additional page of options which is accessed from a button marked "Options>>" at the bottom of the main
DSN setup.

Go to this options page and make sure the second option "Return Matching Rows" is ticked. Press OK, close the dialog and restart EA. Toggling this option on and off will cause the problem you describe as it determines how the driver access new rows during an update.

Let me know how it goes,

Geoff Sparks

General Board / Re: rtf BUG??
« on: December 03, 2002, 03:01:14 am »
Hi,

This is a bug in the current release - which has now been fixed for the next build (585).

I would expect build 585 to be released in a few days time - but if you have an urgent need I can make a zipped copy of the executable with the fix available for download,  let me know if this is needed,

General Board / Re: Linking a sequence diagram to a use case
« on: November 24, 2002, 02:18:29 am »
Hi,

For the next build of EA (582) I have added a section in the HTML document generator to produce hyperlinks from the model element cross references you can set up in EA.

If you havent used these before - try right clicking on a diagram or element in the project browser - and then select the "Add element/diagram as element(s) reference.." - then choose the targets in the current diagram that will cross reference to this one.

When you right click on an element in a diagram you can select "See other references..." from the context menu (Ctrl+J) to view cross links.

The new HTML document generator will produce a set of links for associated diagrams and one for associated elements - so you can hyperlink between elements and diagrams.

This build should be out in a day or two, I hope it helps with this,

General Board / Re: Disabling display of association constraints
« on: November 23, 2002, 02:26:11 pm »
Frank,

I will add in an option in the View/Options/DIagram page to suppress link constraints. THis option will apply to the current user and all diagrams ... so you can effectively turn off seeing constraints for all diagrams in one hit.

The constraint label is shared by the stereotype - so just turning off the particular label using Set Label Visibility may cause unwanted side effects. I will consider adding a per diagram and/or per link option for hiding information.

General Board / Re: EA on Linux/Wine
« on: November 26, 2002, 03:56:47 am »
Hi,

I have had a brief look at this - and had some encouraging reports from other users. My own experiences were not that encouraging - although there were some installation problems with the version of Wine I had and the Mandrake distribution.

If you have any suggestions, experience or ideas concerning this, I would be happy to give it another try. Im not all that familiar with the WINE environment and what API calls will work and what wont.

General Board / Re: Tag magic
« on: November 19, 2002, 08:48:09 pm »
Hi,

There is a setting in the View/options dialog on the Object page - bottom left "Highlight Abstract Elements". Check this and abstract classes will appear with the {abstract} tag in the class name compartment.

General Board / Re: Working with association classes
« on: November 14, 2002, 07:43:33 pm »
Hi,

Build 578 included the ability to unlink a Class from an Association - its a context menu option on the Class.

It has been possible for some time now to link a Class to an Association  - again a context menu option on the Class

Im not exactly sure what is intended by the 3rd request ... an object's classifier may be set ... but Im not sure this is what you intend...

I hope this helps,

General Board / Re: EA 3.50, 550 to 576, 579 upgrade problem
« on: November 18, 2002, 05:31:24 am »
Hi,

Build 550 was part ofthe beta release - and there were a couple of minor database changes during the beta cycle that may be causing your problem. I have tried to duplicate the problem here using a model file distributed with build 550, but cannot reproduce the error you describe.

Could you send me a model file that is causing a problem and I will see what needs to be changed to bring it up to date for you,

you can zip it up and email to:

[email protected]

« on: November 17, 2002, 05:42:21 pm »
Hi again,

From your note Im still not sure where you have got to in the model upgrade process, or what the problem might be.

Does the upgrade model wizard start automatically when you try and open a version 3.10 model file - or do you just get the error message?

Note that if you were using JET 4.0 and Access 2000 format model files, you will need to reset the JET 4.0 option in EA 3.50 (View/Options/Use JET 4.0), as the local options are not copied between 3.10 and 3.50.

Does the EAExample model file distributed with version 3.50 open OK for you?

Could you send one of the problem model files to:
[email protected]

I will see if the problem is model or installation based.

« on: November 10, 2002, 06:35:01 pm »
Hi Dave,

Im not sure where you are in the process. To upgrade from 3.10 to 3.50 you will need to download the latest install for EA from the registered user area, uninstall the previous 3.10 release and then install the 3.50 version. THe license key is the same as per 3.10.

When you open any 3.10 created .EAP project file, EA will automatically detect the fact and upgrade the model file to 3.50 format.

There is an Upgrade menu item in the help menu, which is used to move from a Professional 3.50 version to Corporate version and requires an upgrade key.

I hope I have covered everything - let me know if this is still a problem,

Geoff Sparks
