General Board / Re: Level Numbering
« on: March 27, 2015, 08:11:23 pm »
I don't think the OP is talking about document generation, but about element numbering in the project browser?

We had a similar issue and we solved it rather pragmatically using dummy "numbering" elements like this ...
You are correct, this what I am referring to. I will give this a try but I still think it would be nice to have this built in EA.

Level numbering is a great feature what it might have a slight problem, numbers apply to elements in a package but not to the package itself.

Is there away of applying Level Numbering to the package and the elements contained?

If this is not possible who do you request a feature to be added.

This what I am after:

<<package>>1: Package A
------------<<class>>1.1: Element 1
----------------<<class>>1.1.1: Element 2
----------------<<class>>1.1.2: Element 3
------------<<class>>1.2: Element 4
<<package>>2: Package B
------------<<class>>2.1: Element 1
----------------<<class>>2.1.1: Element 2
----------------<<class>>2.1.2: Element 3
------------<<class>>2.2: Element 4
------------<<class>>2.3: Element 5
<<package>>3: Package C
------------<<class>>3.1: Element 1
----------------<<class>>3.1.1: Element 2
------------<<class>>3.2: Element 4
------------<<class>>3.3: Element 5

General Board / Re: A0 Printing
« on: April 09, 2015, 09:40:00 pm »
As long as you have an A0 capable "printer" install that should be fine. With "printer" I do not mean a physical printer, Microsoft XPS Document Writer or an Adobe PDF Writer would also do the trick.

If you have a A0 capable printer this what you need to do:

1) Either make if the default printer at OS level, if it is not, or go to File/Print Setup, change the printer there, choose the right paper size and chosen orientation.
Unfortunately, EA12 does not save a change to the later as part of of the project.
2) Go to page setup, choose A0 and the desired orientation
3) AFIK for each diagram you need to change the page setup, there are various ways of doing this.

Once you have changed the page setup for each diagram, EA12 saves the new paper settings and does not loose.

General Board / Re: Mac OS X Installation

Instructions for setting up Enterprise Architect on a Mac are available from:
Thanks for the reply, I will research this later.

I am also assuming that EA can run on VM Ware Fusion 10, is this correct?

General Board / Mac OS X Installation

When I downloaded EA 12, I read something which indicated it might be possible to install it on a Mac. However, I have always been under the impression that this is only possible for a dual boot Mac with Windows installed; this is because EA used/uses an Access database.

Is this the case? Or is it actually possible to install EA under OS X? If it is possible a list of steps will be much appreciated.

General Board / Re: Customizing a project

I have decided to go down the stereotype route, however using the stereotypes is proving to be interesting as they do not seem to appear anywhere.

Both stereotypes have comment as the base class.

I would like to customize a project and add 2 "entities" similar to Requirements (under rules): one for questions and another for design assumptions. Is there a way to do this? If so guidance to get started would be much appreciated.

Please note that they don't have to appear under Rules for each class. It is possible that at least some questions could cover more than one class.

General Board / Re: Changing the way classes are displayed
« on: March 19, 2015, 09:26:40 pm »
Thanks for the reply.

I think I got 1 and 2 working (for new classes only). 2 only seems to work for new classes; if I add a class already existing in the model it is displayed just as a rectangle without any compartments.

3 does not work as described in your post. As soon as I add an attribute to a class the boundary line between the attributes and operations compartment appears irrespective of whether there are any operations defined or not.

Inevitably there have to be 3 follow up questions to this:

1) Is it possible to have a "default" style for a diagram where Show Additional Parents and Show Namespace are disabled, and Disable fully scoped names are enabled?

2) Is it possible to have a "default" style for a class where Structure Compartment under Feature and Compartment Visibility is enabled by default?

3) Is it possible to show just the attributes compartment and not the operations compartment? If an attribute is added but no operations are added, the operations compartment appears blank?

Thanks for the help

Thanks Uffe and skiwi, that gets the diagram looking the way I want.

I am using again EA12 to create a conceptual model. I have done this before but always encountered 2 aesthetic problems I would like to solve this time.

1) Is it possible to get a class to display the way it displays when attributes and operations are added but without actually adding any any attributes or operations -  i.e., like

2) On parent child classes, is it possible to stop the class from being displayed A:B:C and just displayed as C?

I have exactly the same problem with FreePDF. However, if I save the diagram to a BMP file it exports fine.

EA 12 build 1214 has a Print to PDF menu item on the File menu. I cannot remember if it was there before and was getting sligthly excited about it but I know better. There is a big problem with it: it misses quite a few diagram shapes.

Has anybody come accross this?

Worth putting in a bug report then, as much functionality has changed in this area.
I will later on today.

Good luck, perhaps someone else will be more motivated to help, given your response.
Luck I might need because I have not found an answer yet and this is starting to look like an EA bug.

I have established that EA12 is actually changing by selections after I click Ok or Apply. So there must be some "EA logic" driving this.

Thanks for the dbmode link. I'll give that a go.
