Automation Interface, Add-Ins and Tools / Connector Validation
« on: April 25, 2017, 08:48:55 pm »
I have written a custom plugin to validate connectors in archimate models in a package.  I've used the validation framework and it works great if I want to validate an entire package.

I am having a hard time trying to extend this to validate the elements on a diagram or a selected item.  It looks like you used to be able to validate at the diagram level but I am not sure it still exists.

I've used the sample C# validation code but am unclear how to enable validation at the diagram or element level.

Has anyone done this at all?

Many thanks,

Automation Interface, Add-Ins and Tools / Odd QuickLink Issue
« on: October 27, 2016, 08:44:58 pm »
I am trying to use quicklinks in my MDG package and everything is looking good aside from one issue.

I have a connector that is an Aggregation.  When I create it from the tool box it is created properly and the arrowhead is where it should be.  This is due to a property (aggregation) in the connector being set to "shared".  When I create one using the quicklinks it has no arrow and the property is set to "none".

I have used the ArchiMate3 diagrams and they all work both from the toolbox and from the quicklinks, so this must be possible.  How do I do it?

Thanks in advance.

Bugs and Issues / Icon Transparency
« on: October 12, 2016, 08:12:56 pm »
I am trying to put a custom icon onto a stereotype defined in an MDG package.  On the canvas the icon looks as expected but in the toolbox, project explorer, PDF output, printing, the transparent area is BLACK.

I set the transparency using photoshop.  I've seen suggestions that maybe EA uses a different version of transparency but then others that say 13 respects transparency.

How do I fix it so that I can have my icons looking good everywhere?

Uml Process / Hide Stereotype Icon
« on: September 15, 2016, 09:57:19 pm »
I have diagrams with components on and all of the components have the component icon on (top right corner).  How can I turn the icon off?  I have certain diagrams where I don't want the icons to display.

I have tried the Hide Stereotype checkbox in Elements on the diagram properties but they don't disappear.

Does anyone know how I can do this?  I do want them in some diagrams, just not others.

I would like to create a number of different styles in an MDG package.  The idea being that if the user of the package creates a diagram and adds an object, they can then select one of my predefined styles from the Layout - Style dropdown.

How can I do this?

Is it possible to have a template for a Structure Type Progress Bar included in an MDG package?  Essentially I have created a tagged value type format in my model and it works really well but I would like it to automatically apply to each object of that stereotype that is created.

How can I do this?  Has any one done it?

I am trying to import some data.

I have worked out how to connect objects that are of the same stereotype.

Now I want to connect objects, say Business Capabilities to Organisation Units that are already in the model.

Is this possible?  I cannot see how to do it.  The profile editor lets you create more than one connection but I don't see how I can say what to.

Has anyone done this?

Hi all,

I have been using the MDG for Office add in to import data from a different EA tool and have been using the MDG for Office addin as I want to import relationships between objects.

It all looks great except that I have noticed that it isn't using a custom connector I have created in and MDG package.  In the profile when I do the import for the connector stereotype I have put "company::composed of" where that is the name of the stereotype I created (I go the name from manually adding one).

When I do the import it has the relationships between the objects and they are all called "composed of" but they are not my one.

Any suggestions?  This is so close to being perfect for what I need.

Many thanks,

Automation Interface, Add-Ins and Tools / MDG Diagram Profile Toolbars
« on: August 22, 2016, 11:14:36 pm »
I am creating a custom MDG for the organisation I work for.  I am a bit stumped with the toolboxes.

I have 2 diagrams, application landscape and business capability landscape.

I have toolbox profiles for each and in the diagram profile I have put an attribute of "toolbox", with a default value of the toolbox name.

When I publish the MDG I get the diagram types but when I create a diagram it doesn't have the toolbox, I have to manually add it.

When I use the Sample it comes up with the toolboxes automatically.

I cannot help thinking I am missing something obvious but I really cannot see what it is.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Many thanks,

Hi everyone,

I am creating my own MDG package and have worked out how to do most of it but am stuck in one area.

I have worked out how to add a custom association but I want to restrict it to only be used between 2 particular types.  Application to location for instance.

How do I do this?  I have tried various things to no avail.

Many thanks,
