PCS General Board / How to leave Analyzer in Prolaborate
« on: November 16, 2023, 11:56:56 pm »
Just starting the exploration of our repository using Prolaborate.
The Analyzer feature looks very promising allowing to analyse all relations and other stuff of an element.
However, I cannot find a button to leave the Analyzer window.

Is there something I'm missing or is it intended to return to Prolaborate via the original login link?

On a diagram I have several objects of the same type and connected with the same connector type.
When I change the appearance of some connectors, they look different.
What I change is the color and thickness. The difference is in the thickness. The color is showing ok.
The effect is in several combinations of element and connector types.
The last diagram I have it, it shows differences between ArchiMate ApplicationComponents and Nodes, connected with Flows To and Serving connectors.

Any suggestions on how to fix this?
Refreshing / reloading the diagram doesn't work.
It even shows the differences in the images generated for the WebEA pages.

PCS Frequently Asked Questions / Handling of journal file with QEA on PCS
« on: October 17, 2023, 04:49:37 pm »
We have a PCS environment using a QEA file on the server to store our repository.
This works fine, I just have some questions regarding the journal file created.
What is the algorithm to commit the journal information into the QEA file?
How long will it take for the background proces to do the commit?
Can I force a commit?

Is there a limitation on the direct use of the QEA file while there is still a journal file present?
For instance, can I copy the QEA file for backup or use elsewhere without copying the journal file?

I have a PowerBI connection using the QEA file directly as a source for data.
Can I just use that connection even when the journal file is still present or do I have to wait for the data to be committed?

Just some questions.

In my project, I have an external source providing a reference model which I incorporate (import) in my own repository.
As intended, I link my own objects to objects in the reference model to gain insight in how things work.
The challenge I have is how to handle an update of the reference model, eg. from V1 to V2 where reference objects are changed, deleted and added.
The reference model is already separate in a different package.

I have tried several scenario's:
  • Remove the complete V1 package and import the new V2 model in my repository.
A drawback from this approach is that I then lose all relations between the reference model and my own objects.
  • Import the new V2 and deduplicate objects that are present in both versions.
The drawback is that there may be V2 elements that are renamed and thus not recognised as being duplicate. Also V1 objects that are not present any more in V2 still exist in the reference model.

Any suggestions on how to handle this challenge and overcome the drawbacks are very welcome.

PCS Bugs and Issues / WebEA Issue Overview of Discussions
« on: March 14, 2023, 11:22:09 pm »
When using the WebEA discussions option, I can show all discussions of the last 7 days or 30, or...
So far so good.
However, the list shown is not organised as they all seem to be created on the same day and time: 1970-Jan-01 03:00.
This date seems to be the 0 value of a numeric datetimestamp.
Is there an issue with getting the date information to show?
When I open the discussion itself, it correctly shows the date and time it is created.
I do have a screen shot but cannot include it here.

General Board / How to remove linked composite diagram?
« on: March 01, 2023, 08:59:48 pm »
For objects, there is the option to create a link to a composite diagram using the menu option "New Child Diagram => Select composite diagram".
The fact a diagram is linked is shown via the lying 8 (infinite) symbol in the bottom right corner.
This works fine as long as the diagram is used and sensible.
However, when I just deleted a diagram which was in use as such a composite diagram, the infinite symbol is still shown.
Double clicking the element gives the 'normal' response as it opens the properties window.

Besides this, I couldn't find a menu entry to remove the link before deleting the diagram itself.
Am I missing something?

General Board / Default Visibility connectors on other diagrams
« on: February 15, 2023, 06:26:21 pm »
When creating a new connector between two objects, it is drawn as expected on the diagram I'm working on.
For that connector, there is an option to manage the visibility of the connector on other diagrams. To be reached via the right mouse-click.
It seems that the default is that the connector is automatically drawn on all diagrams both objects are visible on.

Would it be possible to change that default behaviour to not automatically show the connector?
In my case, a lot of diagrams are 'polluted' with undesired connectors, leading to a lot of work to keep those other diagrams clean.

General Board / Relation to Data Build Tool (getdbt)
« on: February 07, 2023, 11:19:02 pm »
Recently I learned there is a tool to handle ETL processes in a datawarehouse (DWH) environment.
It is called Data Build Tool (more info via getdbt.com).
Does anyone has any experience whether EA can be a competitor to also support ETL processes?
This would enable us to link the ETL processes to data elements already defined and modelled in other parts of our model.

General Board / PowerBI presentations of a PCS Repository
« on: January 10, 2023, 09:27:46 pm »
Hai,
Currently we are moving from a client based Enterprise Architect environment to a more shared configuration using Pro Cloud Server (PCS).
In the 'old' environment, I managed to have PowerBI access the information in the EAPX/QEAX files to present a dashboard with statistics.
Any suggestions on how to connect PowerBI to the PCS repositories?
Thanks.
