General Board / MDG for Visual Studio
« on: April 24, 2009, 11:55:42 am »
Hello,

I was under the impression that EA 7.5 came bundled with the MDG for Visual Studio ( likewise for the MDG for Eclipse).  Cool I thought.

However the other evening I was told that it was definately not included... we was rather distressed.

Can anybody confirm Im correct in thinking that some versions of EA now include a license to use these MDG thingies ( whereas before you had to purchase seperate licenses)... but that they are still seperate downloads.... [smiley=evil.gif] and we is all awaiting v4

Thanks

General Board / Misrepresentation.....  should be sued
« on: March 26, 2009, 06:20:19 am »
Hi'ya dudes

Just had oppertunity to illustrate the new interface to some kids... nice employer hugs...  [smiley=rolleyes.gif] This was to give you the setting and purpose

Aim was to show easy it is to go from Visual Studio 2010 IDE to Sparx kit (EA).... that bit goes wonderfully.   [smiley=rolleyes.gif] visual styles, the feature thats gives the user a layout and colouring that resembles a selection of common ( popular ) application interfaces....

It's rather unsettling to try the Word to Sparx kit....   :exclamation ok, Word 2007

where's the ribbon? [smiley=rolleyes.gif] [smiley=rolleyes.gif]

We can live with it... but be kinda amaz'ing.... being able to minimise  [smiley=rolleyes.gif] make the ribbon act like a drop down, when you click the menu bar item ( file, Edit... eyc ), pays in veiwable diagram surface... we were using a netbook ( screens 1280*600).... the opersite to Slate \Tablet  :exclamation where it's used in portrait orientation ( where the narrowness of the screen makes the tool Box and Project explorer down the sides the issue)..

Can you do stuff like that by automation?

Cheers

General Board / Impressions - State, Activity and Sequence Codegen
« on: January 30, 2009, 02:11:00 pm »
Hello there,

Now that Sparx's has let registered folkees play with a beta of EA 7.5, can you answer a couple of questions

1.  How does it render a state machine in code? Does it use
subclassing to represent state or some switch on a attribute,
     or is is user definable

2.  When debugging a state based class, is the current state reflected
in a diagram ( aka Rose RT and Tau ) ?

3.  Whats the Activity to code look like? Can you reverse engineer
method ( operation ) bodies to Activity Diagrams.

4.  Whats the game with Sequence to code?

5.   Is there any model simulation?

6.   Does EA 7.5 support C#3 or do you need to have the VS
      Intregation product.

I have a lot more, but that'll have to wait until I can get an evaluation edition... will Sparx be providing evaluation editions;  the seperation between the three new editions ( Bis Arch, Sys / Realtime, Ultimate ( rather Microsoftie that) seems to suggest that.

Thank you in advance, hope you enjoy the experience

General Board / Microsoft Codename Quadrant
« on: November 05, 2008, 04:22:21 am »
Just caught a glimpse of Quadrant;

VSTS generates a cool sequence diagram of any operation... tho it does introduce a new bit of notation for calls beyond a user set depth, namely a black dot ( leveraged from state and activity notation ).

Once you've got your UML model into the Repository; ( who will be the first to produce a parser image to accomplish this I wonder? ) why would you wanna emerge it again in EA ( how long you reckon, will Sparx's take to dream up the import capability to even try in EA )?

It doesn't quite shout model simulator ( a kind of Runtime )... so we all feel rather pleased .... any ideas about what ya'd call doing it, would be cool suggestions....

Prof Fowler say's Quadrants a Language workbench...

All those Unique Interface characteristics of the EA Ui/x... cured, ya modify the application model ( of EA ) in Quadrant ( change a worlflow, add states and vairables ) so that it works how ya want.  Send the modification history to Sparx; couple hours later ( to allow for release and publication testing ) you got what ya wanted.

In Quadrant, this is a realtime experience.  As soon as repository has included the modifications, these are reflected in the Quadrant application instance.    CHANGE as you USE IT [smiley=engel017.gif] [smiley=engel017.gif] has appeal to some user populations

Parrellism and Concurrency the big thing for Framework v4 ( not in the language ).  Dark coloured lines for Tasks, lighter for threads;  Did you know that the CLR Profiler Log, can be parsed and imported into the repository; a simulator would enable you to explore the execution dynamics of any changes, without incuring the overhead of potentially costly hardware and software expenditure... coupled with PEX you should be able to discovery the with, what, when and how of anything that can be executed.

Microsoft's joined the OMG...  so UML won't remain colourless and 2D for too much longer ( oh and the UML in VSTS 2010 is 2.4 )...   [smiley=vrolijk_1.gif].

In the UML Model they have a 'Logical Class Diagram' for UML, and the VS Class Diagram for the physical classes contained in projects.

Anyone played with it?

General Board / Realtime Profile.....
« on: October 28, 2008, 10:07:49 am »
Hello, I can't remember how long ago that I heard about Sparx' Realtime ( state diagram ) support being in beta to registered users....

Now ya got 7.1 outa the door, how much longer do we have to wait ( we want to demo 'Real Time Simulations of "User Models"... state machines, triggers and transisions.... collaborations... Workflow...) before we have anything to compete with Rational RoseRT.

Is C# v3 included in 7.1 ( by the end of year we will be trasissioned to Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 ..... and framework v4...  ) thats where Microsoft intendeds to release a Sequence Diagram Designer.

After that my senior managers will expect us to internally provide demo and promotional materials.

How is EA dealing with Language Intergrated Processing Concurrency ( executing an SQL Query in parrell on a dual-quad platform was a well cool demo of multi-processor solution frames... even gave us an early sight of the C# Framework Library.... Parrell.Foreach

We think it was a 'variable point' that TFS provided, rather than a tooling misfit.... otherwise we enjoyed trying to understand our process.

General Board / Operation Parameters on Activity Diagram
« on: May 04, 2008, 08:51:46 am »
Hi guys

When I drag an operation (defined for a class) from the project explorer onto an Activity Diagram, I get an operation call action symbol, but not input pins for the parameters to the operation.

This doesn't strike me as being correct, and despite some searching around I can't find an option that controls there visibility.

Does anyone know how to show this...

Thanks

EA 7.1 and only to registered users.... man thats mean mean mean; and I'm buzzing EA.

They'll all think I've been 'hoodwinked' or worse.

And I bet it doesn't parse 'Parrell.for Constructs' either.

When pray, might we expect VS2k8 intergrations, TFS?

I do hope 'registered folkees' are having fun, whats it's speach inteface like ( many of our students have language announciation chellenges ), we seek solution!!!

General Board / EA Help not working in VISTA !!!
« on: November 23, 2006, 11:44:21 am »
Hello Guys

I've just installed EA, under Vista... I was-impressed with how easily this appeared to go.

However, none of the help is available, either from the Help menu or help button on dialogs.

Instead of Help is a message box suggesting a non existent download location to get HHUDP.exe

Any idea's what's wrong or how to get help back?

I understand why Wspelldig.hlp doesn't work. That help format isn't supported under Vista; Microsoft will ( may) provide a download at some point ( 3rd Parties are prohibited from providing it in their setup or downloadable from their websites ). But this shouldn't effect CHM (compiled help).

;D I'd search the help but...

General Board / Importing XMI from Altova UModel 2006 r2
« on: November 06, 2006, 03:53:48 am »
Hiya guys

I have been handed a problem!!!

I'm evaluating EA, and I am enjoying the experience...

HOWEVER... I have to share some of my work with other folks, and not all of them are using EA. I haven't completed the 'Tools you use' survey yet.

The 'fool' in the office next door is using Altova UModel and we got to talking about how much stuff I give him. We was well happy bunnies, there I was pushing XMI stuff and him gobbling it up... Shame about the diagrams but can't have everything we thought.

It's a bit of a downer to discover that EA can't do the same.

Whenever I try and import an XMI file generated by UModel, EA announces that it contains errors via a message box and doesn't import anything.

This is something of a downer, and I'm at a loss... what errors, where?

Any help suggestions, solutions or workarounds would be really welcome...

Regards
Kevin

General Board / Any interest re Microsoft web Service Software Fac
« on: April 14, 2006, 02:37:31 am »
Any one tried to make a meaningful EA model of the microsoft Patterns and Practises, reference implementation source drop. So far I've only managed to get an error message and whole load of build errors and warnings.

There's also an Reference Framewor, and probably some DSL tooling to configure the data layer and Service layers. like workflow and deployments

Regards, and Stay tough
Kevin.
Happy Bank holiday yeah.

General Board / Diagram pop-up menu
« on: January 16, 2006, 11:29:12 pm »
Hi dudes

Have just discovered a strange sorta error.  Elsewhere, someone was asking how to delete an element from the model, by using the elements pop menu on a diagram.

The behaviour of the delete menu item, and the Cntrl + Del shortcut are not the same.  The menu item just deletes the item from the diagram, the same as using the Delete key.  Cntrl + Delete, removes the item from the model, and all diagrams.

Is this by design?  If so I can't understand the rational.
Perhaps you would only make the mistake once, but man thats a really nasty learning technique...

Is it possible to modify the pop menu so as to correct this.... it would also help if I could add a menu item so as to provide both delete behaviours.

How many folks have fallen foul of this?

Are there any other examples you've come accross?

Stay tough
Kevin

ps... where or how do I report this?

General Board / MDG Integration for Visual Studio 2005 Beta 1
« on: December 11, 2005, 04:52:48 am »
Hello Folks,

I've just installed EA 6 and MDG for VS2005, installation for both completed with no errors.

Once I figured, that I had to create a solution / project from within Visual Studio, then switch to EA to link a package to the project;  model / code sync from within EA worked as  expected.  Build and Run is a breeze too, tho' my attempt to step into the code, caused EA to close up  :o  well impressed ( but would have liked to have been able to create a project from within EA ).

However, I can't seem to get at the model from within Visual Studio... 'Attach UML Model' from Project Menu, or Solution, just do nolthing.  View|EA does nothing.... all that nice functionality about Model View, Properties View; just not there guys !!!  VS About says it's got the VS 2005 Integration ( I Checked cos I thought I might have downloaded the 2003 thing).

Have I missed something, just plain thick, you not put it in :-[  Thankyou for any suggestions.

Stay tough
Kevin

Uml Process / Asynchronous Messaging Notation for Sequendiagrams
« on: April 15, 2012, 06:20:55 am »
Hello, I know this question is going to make me seem incredible sad and lonely!)

However, now that C# has asynchronous language semantics as well as static and dynamic synchronous.

Am I right that whereas a synchronous message is illustrated with a full arrowhead, asynchronous messages with the lower half of the arrow occluded.

Are asynchronous return messages shown with a dotted line but with the upper half of the arrow occluded?

Diagram would help yeah....
