Suggestions and Requests / Re: Bug : Help Content Issues
« on: November 25, 2006, 05:30:42 am »

Is it the custom in Australia and the USA to use 'an' instead of 'a'...

Example

To create an MDG Technology File;

To create a MDG Technology File;

I seem to remember a rule about using 'an' only if preceding a vowal; like in 'An apple' or 'An original'.

Suggestions and Requests / BUG: Relationship View
« on: November 23, 2006, 12:11:51 pm »
Hi

I'm running EA on a tablet (Vista) in Portrate mode; and discover this when display the Relationship Matrix view.

If dropdown box contains a scroll bar, I will not be able to get to it and thus will have limited functionality. this is re-enforced by no scroll bar at the bottom of the view....

This is propably a minor problem, I can always switch to landscape or connect a keyboard  ??? >:( :'(

there is also a problem with the help system, I've posted to General forum.

Suggestions and Requests / Re: Port to OS X?
« on: January 29, 2006, 07:17:10 am »
Hi'ya Bro....

I shall have to pay closer attention to the speaker at future roadshows.  In fairness, not all Office versions include Access on the Windows platform either.

Personnaly I would prefer a Web version.  But then I'd like a UML Virtual Machine and an Action Semantic profile.

AN ASIDE: ;D
Why would a user population, who can only master one button on their mouse; ever want a database?

Microsoft Office for MacOx, does include Access... Ms claimed they made the platform usable at a roadshow recently...

Anyhows, you port it to Linux

Hi'ya

I just gotta comment on the bit about expensive!!!

This might be the case for non-Microsoft platforms, but after you've forked out for Visual Studio 2005 Professional and downloaded the VSIP (Extention and Intergration Package) you get a graphical DSL tool.  Admittedly, the free Express tools are not compatible with VSIP.

Righthand Side expressions provide a persistant container.

Lefthand Side expressions provide container content.

This expressions can be used to provide either content or persistance.

Expressions have a local execution context; may have paraments. Has one thread of execution.  Sometimes they are like functions and return a result.  Procedures do not return a result.

Hi'ya guys... I've recovered.

It was a qualified delete of the diagram element from the model, ' if it did'nt appear in any other diagrams ' of course was in there too.

I don't like keyboard short cuts, and customizing the right click pop menu, can aid a lot in handling models in various user perspectives.

Isn't uniformity of the UI a XML Configuration thing.  There's like a manufacturers statndard (  ;D match the documentation even ) but why not many kinds of delete.

Sometimes suggest hides and mirrors.  It''d only be in looking at those boring runtime animations that you might even glimpse how your 'x product whatever' was overtaken by Rotware product learning.

I'm not completely stupid here :-[ in the other place yes.

Select the item on the diagram, then use Cntrol + Delete does delete the item from the model.

It does thro up a message box to confirm.

But not 'if it don't appear on any other diagram'.

Perhaps the very clever people into scripting addons, could come up with a query based item delete.  I'm just too red faced, even suggesting that it was a dreadfull user interface issue (Loudly).

Hi'ya Uwe, youre up early bro....

I thought that was an option on the pop-menu, but having just run up EA I discover that it an't.  Thats a negative tick :-[ in my evaluation.

But, having explored a bit further, if you select the class element, then Cntrl and Delete, it does what you expect.

The pop-menu, does suggest that Cntrl + Del, would behave like the menu option, but it don't..... what can u say, two negative 3 negative boxes ticked within 10 minutes (by boss will be pleased)...

General Board / EA and VS2013 Community Edition
« on: November 24, 2014, 08:17:06 am »
Hi, I am wondering whether EA's Visual Studio integration works with Visual Studio 2013 Community Edition?

I also note that a beta of the next EA release is in the pipe line, and that the integration mechanism is built in with Professional and above.  Will it work with the Community Edition?

Has anyone successfully done either?

From what I understand from Microsoft, there is no change in the integration / extension between VS2013 and VS2015 ( I'm thinking that it would be a miracle if either the current or beta EA's work with VS2015, but I'm prepared to be impressed ).

Hi

I've tried searching for Cloud Service Installer, but have only found this topic...

Where is the cloud service installer?  I've looked all over but just can't seem to find it.

Thank you, and sorry for the tangential enquiry

General Board / Java 8

Hello,

Now that Oracle has launched Java 8 upon the world, any ideas if, or when EA will support it?  Will EA 11?

Hi there guys

@Simon, thanks for clearing that up.  That makes complete sense to me now;  a number of clients where unable to complete satisfactory reviews a few years back mainly because they could not connect to the current version of VS. We explained it then, as now, that Sparx hadn't released the integration yet which addressed their concerns and we moved on.  Now I can be much more informative.

I thought 'The Reusable Asset Server' (but hadn't got around to exploring) was interesting and possibly might addressed the common sharing aspect.  Hopefully in a future release Sparx will enable it in the trial.  Being able to share at the package level is better than no sharing, although Modeliosoft's outline seemed to be suggesting a much finer grain than that, at class or object level (ie being able to create an association between a class in my model to a class in the share repository, or an attribute).  They also implied that it maintained a reference to the external repository rather than importing the whole package; which would have significant impact on reducing the size of the model the user is working on.  Simplifying the separation of users concerns, ie requirement and use case modellers, not having to navigate test case modelling or implementation details; each group of users having access only to the parts of the model that concern them.  Many of the folks I have listened to have also welcomed the decentralised security of this repository structure, particularly those with outsourced providers, and enterprise silos.  Sharing is important and some of those frameworks are really huge (.Net Framework the amount of stuff that is reverse engineered into a simple console template app is astonishing large, when all you've done is Console.Writeline("Hello World")).

@Royc thanks, I shall read that later.

This morning I'm going to play with the new state machine generator, and see if I can get a handle on the new Actions and Object-flows in activity diagrams.

Can I produce EA Automation Interface activities diagrammatically?  One of my sponsors has specifically asked me to investigate this aspect;  without any prodding on my part.

Thank you again for your help and insight.

Hello, :) that was a fast response, thank you

@Simon, have you any information when VS2013 integration version will be released?  I'm a little confused around 'separate product', examination of the edition comparison table seems to suggest that in the Ultimate edition (for example) that integration with VS2008, VS2010., and VS2012 is included;  will this change with EA 11?

@Aaron, thank you for furnishing those links, I've always found it difficult to search the forums for specific information ( which I always feel are a treasure trove ).  I will go explore them and the white paper later this evening.

One of the areas I am particularly interested in is the idea of a distributed repository.  The OMG recently published a white paper authored by ModelioSoft that outlined a shared distributed model repository.  It concentrated on outlining how different interest groups within a team might compartmentalise parts ( fragments ) of the model, in separate stores.  It did touch on providing public repositories for common frameworks, ( .Net Framework for ex, or public API's like Twitter or the automation interface of EA )... It struck me as an interesting way to increase model reuse.  Has Sparx got anything like this?  From memory EA has a very centralist approach one model one repository;  I feel like I'm cheating asking that btw, what is evaluation for if not discovery like that?

Thank you again for you're attention and help.

Kevin [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]
