Suggestions and Requests / "Import Package from XMI" should remembe
« on: February 27, 2007, 01:52:05 pm »
Hi,

EA Version 6.5.804 (Build:804), on Windows XP SP2

When I "Import Package from XMI", and then the "Select Import Filename" dialog comes up.. but it always starts in the EA root folder, instead of the last used one.

I have several XMI files to import, and it's a hassle having to retype in the full path ever time.  Can I request an enhancement to keep 'session-level' preferences?  By that I mean that the *next* time you start up EA, it can go back to the EA root folder.

thanks,
gary

Hi,

> within the geospatial community

May I ask what sort of projects?  We're doing work here in Canada here for Roads, and a separate one for Streams/Watersheds, and then finally a new one is shaping up for "Terrain Resource Information".

>  same base mode
We also tried to be compliant with ANSI or NCHRP (transportation) models at the logical level, and OpenGIS standards at the implementation (relational DB) level.

Are you planning to implement in a spatial database?  I found a real 'impedence mismatch' between modeling the Logical Class Model in UML (EA of course), and implementing the Persistence Model in a Relational database (Oracle Spatial).

Gary

P.S.  If this gets REALLY off-topic, feel free to respond to me directly ([email protected]).

Suggestions and Requests / Re: Restart numbering in RTF
« on: August 09, 2005, 10:08:04 am »
Assuming you're not talking about V5.0's new RTF Generator (which I have yet to install), if you want a non-default numbering reset, why don't you use Word's built-in 'restart numbering'  feature?

It would mean doing it in each 're-gen', but I'm unsure how you would specify a 'restart numbering' in the RTF template...

Hi,

Did you ever solve this?  I recently reverse engineered a 9i (and 10g) DB schema, and it completed without such an error message.

Is there anything special about your column names?  Did you create the tables/columns in Oracle with double quotes around the names?

Cheers,
Gary

Suggestions and Requests / Re: Diagram Pagination
« on: September 09, 2004, 10:14:37 am »
Hi,

If you want  an image to span multiple pages in an RTF document, then I don't think either WordPad or Word can do that.

It'll automatically scale it to fit on one page; at least in my experience.  Have  you been able to do this in an RTF document with any other image, from any other software?

If I need an RTF document as a deliverable, I ensure that the diagram elements fit within the portrait or landscape page boundaries, and ensure that the text size is large enough to read.  I also minimize the space between elements (e.g. connector length) to ensure that things fit.

Lastly, I choose EMF format for the diagram so that when the user zooms in (in Word), the text becomes more and more legible as you zoom closer.

HTH,
Gary

General Board / SQL Server install using SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI

Hi

We're moving to a central repo.  Has anyone had experience with Unicode or non-English (i.e. first nations) using this collation setting?

I'm used to utf8.

thanks

Okay, then that's one less reservation I have about moving to this new direction.   Thanks!

And now there's a proposal to move away from Subversion and have both external and internal staff use Cloud Server.  I want to avoid forcing all users to be on the release of  Sparx EA, and the same extensions/plug-ins/add-ons/etc.

Does moving to Cloud Server mean that all users have to be using the same release of Sparx EA on their desktop?

TIA

Hi

My org has been sending .eap file back and forth, and now we're moving to a central RDBMS shared, and with User Security and Versioning enabled.  Here's my overview of the deployment.. http://pasteboard.co/15yIEDCO.png

My big question is "is it true than XMI imports/export to and from SubVersion/SparxEA have to go through the desktop client?".  TIA

You will need to turn on security in order to regulate access to those reference data.

Right.. thanks.  Oh and that tweaked me to look further into this and I answered my own question.  Create a 'Common' Model Branch which has as sub-packages, all 'common' projects.   Enable the security (mentioned above) to ensure that only authorized users can import changes to any package under the 'Common' Model Branch.

Hi

Step 2 from the online doc http://www.sparxsystems.com/enterprise_architect_user_guide/9.3/projects_and_teams/exportrefdata.html does a good job of explaining what can be included in 'Reference Data' when one imports and exports it.

Our Architecture Landscape will have 'common' systems, with published interfaces, that we wish to let other teams (who will be obtaining the projects via an Subversion Repo, using XMI 1.x) reference from their own projects, project which will not be 'common', but rather a line-of-business application.

So it's really 'Reference Data' for our organization (e.g. "Common Finance").  Is it as simple as ensuring they export this project in addition to Sparx's own "Reference Data"?

And then we lock down the 'common' systems so that no-one can check in any unauthorized changes?

TIA
Gary

Thanks Jacob.. I'll have to mull over what you suggest.. and in fact, try it out... thanks for the suggestion.

General Board / BPMN Message attributes/paramaetesr
« on: April 15, 2014, 08:11:50 am »
Hi

I searched for 'bpmn', 'message', 'attributes' but found nothing on this.  How could I represent interaction between our business activities and services provided by external systems?

So if we need to lookup a Client from an external and shared  'Common Client' service, how do I show 'send clientID, dateValid' and expect 'clientName, clientType, contactName'?

This is at a requirements level, and so maybe it's too low-level for BPMN?  Some people here are simply putting in the the logical data model but it seems wierd to model structural attributes for a behavior that is partly external.

TIA

General Board / EA 11 "Team Review"
« on: July 01, 2014, 04:53:41 am »
Hi

I just installed the newer version and note, in Model Views -> Recent Team Review.  I also see in Sparx's "Enterprise Architect 11 Reviewer's Guide' that:
"The Enterprise Architect Team Review facility helps users to discuss the development and progress of a project. Team members can view and post messages within the modeling environment and can
link their posts directly to elements within
the model. "

I see the Elements Discussion window, but how do I link the exact element the property/text I'm commenting on?

General Board / Re: How to enter license server info for all users
« on: April 23, 2014, 09:45:28 am »
We pushed our EA tool out via a packaged deployment.  Part of the configuration pointed the installed EA to reference our licence server.

If you're doing it as a one-off (i.e. each person installs themselves), then you'll have to do it manually (each time).
